Hotter Shoes - are they different or is it just me?

This year I have bought two pairs of their shoes. I have been a real fan and almost all of my shoes are from their shops. However, although all the shoes I have from before fit me with no problem and always comfortable I purchased these later ones by click and collect and they have the same problem. That is a real struggle to get them on and having to wear them around the house before becoming anywhere near comfortable. Then this week my dd knowing I wear Hotter’s had a another pair delivered to me. These were really unbelievably tight. As far as I can determine my feet haven’t swollen or changed in any way and if this is the case my older ones would also be uncomfortable. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem.

Mum found the same, that they were slightly different sizes. to previously.

In fact should anyone with a small foot like a pair of these at half price (they were £99 and I forgot to send them back!) let me know by sending me a message!

I was looking for a really comfy pair of sandals last week and our local Dobbies Garden Centre has both a Hotter concession and a Pavers in it, so I had a look round both. I liked the look of one pair of Hotter sandals, but the soles really weren't all that comfortable, so I went for a pair of Pavers instead.

Similarly, I have many pairs of Leanne 11 but the latest are stiff and irritate my feet and they were nothing like the photo in style or colour (they refunded). In the past I have bought that style, put them on straight away and walked for miles with no problem.

but I must buy more like that

Mustn't buy more similar to that

Autocorrect.

Callistemon21 Fri 13-May-22 23:28:02

They look like my type of shoes, MawtheMerrier but I must buy more like that.

Now I do need some sturdy sandals or summer shoes with room for orthotics hmm

MayBee70 Fri 13-May-22 23:01:22

Do you ever wonder where auto correct get these names/words from?

MawtheMerrier Fri 13-May-22 21:22:07

Rogerson - third time lucky!

MawtheMerrier Fri 13-May-22 20:43:54

Rogers on - oops autocorrect again

MawtheMerrier Fri 13-May-22 20:43:25

I know Rogers of old, but always thought they specialised in narrow fittings- and my legs seem to end in two hovercraft!
I’m still in these (13 hours on ) and feeling good- I also felt very secure waking along the woodland paths this morning (and later in the pub!)

Grammaretto Fri 13-May-22 18:26:17

That is worth knowing Maw. I have found some soft shoes haven't the soles to see you through the day without aching legs.
My local shoe shop is certainly not cheap but they do have a few Clearance shops where you can get bargains

My middle name could once have been Hotter but I have been disappointed recently.
Yesterday I bought two pairs of trainers in our local Charles Clinkard shop - which I always thought on the expensive side, but these were suede with lacing and.a side zip and only £59.99 each whereas my most recent Hotters were £89
These are like wearing pillows on your feet - bliss!
I don’t know if I can blame the pandemic but two years of trainers/slippers/Birkenstocks and my feet seem to have grown a half size and widened to the width of your average tug boat.
These are SO SOFT , called Jana Softline and come highly recommended.
(I have worn the beige suede ones all day today at the family Woodland Burial funeral and they are still comfortable and I felt reasonably smart casual in them)

Ecco used to be made in Denmark but got too successful and moved operations to Portugal (and probably the far east). As soon as that happened, their lasts changed and nothing fitted me anymore.
I reckoned the Portuguese with their slim, shallow feet couldn't believe that Northern feet were so broad and deep.
Just a theory....

A salesperson in Ecco told me years ago that Hotter basically ripped off the designs from Ecco and used cheaper materials, hence the price difference.

Elusivebutterfly Thu 12-May-22 09:47:36

I don't find any change in Hotter shoes. I bought some recently and they fit just the same as the pair I bought last year. I just have to check the width as cannot wear their wide fit shoes. If I get narrow, I go up half a size.
I also like Ecco but they are very expensive. Some Clarks are good but some are too soft. Reiker come up very small.

MayBee70 Wed 11-May-22 19:04:53

I like the look of their Rose sandals.

I have been buying Hotter shoes - mainly sandals - for the last two or three years since I developed plantar fasciitis. Maybe I have bought them since the change.

I was trying everything (shoe-wise) to relieve the pain in my heel. FitFlops were OK but a bit too floppy with the stretchy tops.

Hotters turned out to be perfect for me. I am a standard size 6 and buy online from Hotters when the sales are on or there is an offer. I find the arch support very good.

I also suffer from blisters if I wear sandals with bare feet. I have bought Tourist sandals from Hotter and can wear them all day with no problems. I have them in about five colours and have a navy pair coming today

I used to always wear Clarks shoes but the quality seemed to go down about five years ago. I think they also started manufacturing abroad.

I find Sketchers shoes on the big side. The lady in their shop said they come up big because they are American.

I find Pavers very hard, narrow and uncomfortable

Yes I bought a few pairs before covid all were fine and I ordered a new pair last year and a stitch hadn’t being done correctly and it really badly bruised and made my little toes bleed. I wore around home and they felt fine but footpaths aren’t flat and that’s when I noticed so unfortunately I couldn’t get refund. So very expensive lose also I had to size up. So I won’t be buying them again but I have found Moda in pelle very comfortable shoes first time I wore them since then gone on to buy a few more pairs but on their website they tell you to size up. Which is very helpful saving on postage returns

Last summer I bought a pair of the ‘deck shoe’ type in my usual size, but they were slightly big and once worn in, were really on the big side.

So recently I ordered a pair that looked exactly the same, in half a size smaller.
But in fact they’re very slightly different and feel slightly too small. I’m gradually wearing them in, though, and hoping the leather will ‘give’.

Their sizes certainly don’t seem consistent. I’ve had perfectly fitting ones and slightly too big or small, all in the same size.

Thank you annodimiini for reminding me how good Gabor shoes are. I am now going to look around after years of devoted allegiance to Hotters. However, I took my latest pair of disappointing shoes back this morning and related the problem to the sales assistant who put it down to the style probably not suiting my feet!!! On the plus side they refunded me the cost with no trouble at all. It is still a mystery.

annodomini Sun 08-May-22 22:59:08

Thanks for your input, Lovetopaint037. Your experience confirms what I have found - evidently my feet have not shrunk and sizes have changed. Luckily, my solution seems to have worked. For more 'dressy' shoes, I have generally found Gabor to suit me well - not very high heels but (and I hesitate to use the term) 'age-appropriate'.

That is why I have been buying them for years now. Also why I didn’t hesitate to buy online. I am size 6 standard. Never had any trouble. Bought boots from the shop last September and two pairs of very expensive boots (£99) online two years ago, All perfect as I expected them to be. It has only been the last few shoes that were so very tight. I thought it must be my feet having spread during the wearing of boots over the Winter. Well I sorted out my other warmer weather shoes purchased at the end of last season. All perfect and comfortable. One pair I kept as I couldn’t believe that my reliable Hotter shoes were not right. I have worn these a couple of times as they seemed better for using them around the house. I wish now I had taken them back. However, the pair my daughter bought for me and the ones I ordered a couple of weeks ago were beyond acceptance as in each case I literally couldn’t get my feet in them without a terrible struggle. I took my daughters back and now I have decided to take back the ones I ordered. I am not buying any more online but will only try them on in the shop before buying. If you could see my wardrobes full up with Hotter’s shoes and boots you would realise that this is a really difficult and disappointing decision.

LovetoPaint I been buying them for about 5 years now but nothing for over a year except for another pair of their Ridge II GTX walking boots a month ago.

I take a size 9 and can rely on Hotter's size 9 to be a 43 (as Clarks are) but unlike a lot of other makes like Pavers, where their 9 is a 42.

It's the second pair of GTX boots I've had and they are so comfortable. Wore them on holiday the other week - every day, all day. Then a pair of Hotter shoes for the evening.

I have no Hotter shop near by any more so will rely on online ordering. I'm wanting another pair of their long fashion boots for next winter. Fingers crossed they fit well.

Deedaa

Most of my shoes are Hotter. I buy the extra wide ones. I usually buy them on eBay so they have often been worn a few times and are nicely softened up by the time they get to me.

Love your style Deedaa. That’s a great idea.?

Lovetopaint037 Sat 07-May-22 19:06:50

Thank you all for your input. As said before I have always praised Hotter’s and used to say that I had wasted money on other makes so only bought from them. But these recent buys have disappointed me due to the tortuous effort to get my feet into the shoes. I am wearing all the other Hotter’s shoes and boots aware now that my new shoes just don’t seem the same. One pair may be a blip but not three. I am wearing a pair of them as I post to try to soften them up. They don’t feel bad when they have been on for awhile but am hoping that I don’t have to continue to spend ages struggling to get into them. When I asked about a wider width I was told it wouldn’t help as they would be too wide for my heel!!!
Sorry Grammaretto that you were also disappointed and hope things improve meanwhile I won’t be ordering any more and will only try them on in the shop to make sure they are accessible. Last September I bought a pair of their boots in the shop and they were lovely. So perhaps all is not lost!!!
