Hi Su. Please be very careful. My sister has just been diagnosed with melanoma after a life being outdoors with horses. Your spf30 in a moisturiser isn’t enough. You need an actual sunblock on top. Clinique do one which they’ve just updated to SPF50. It’s called City Block and is light and lovely and has the slightest flesh toned tint to it. I’ve used it donkeys years and though there’s only 16 months between myself and my sister, our skins look very different. She has a great deal of pigmentation and as I say, is about to have some melanoma moles removed, next week.

Have recently been to Italy with sister and shared a room. I was shocked at the sun damage to her skin. She’s darker naturally than I am, I’m deathly pale so, have always slapped in the spf.

For everyday wear I love nivea tinted moisturer...It also has factor 25 sun protection and costs less than £5.00...

The only foundation that covers all my blemishes is Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid foundation. They have discontinued my shade but I've found it online. It's only about £9.
I've tried Bare Minerals, Charlotte Tilbury, Estee Lauder, Avon but always go back to Maybelline.

I recommend buying from QVC.
You can use it for three months, and if you don’t get on with it, you can return it.
Their returns policy and customer customer service is second to none.

I find Bare Minerals quite heavy. Tinted moisturisers are much lighter.

Bare Minerals do a tinted moisturiser too. I use it.

I have really touchy skin .I don't tan easily.
I'm outside gardening a lot and my skin takes a battering .
It flushes easily .
I've been called Aunt Sally due the high colour in my cheeks !
At one point ,I had a huge area of brown pigmentation under one eye . It was pre - cancerous .

Cleaning your face before you go to bed is so important .
I avoid soap - too drying .
I use baby lotion and then wipe off the excess with Micellar water with cotton wool .
The only exfoliator ,which I think is fantastic is Liz Earle's
It will slough off years of neglect and skin cells .
I use it once a week .
You need to moisturise afterwards
Nivea is fine .
I don't use expensive ones .
Before you go outside use a sunblock - even if you are just popping out to hang the washing on the line or put the rubbish out .
Again whatever you can afford .

One of my friends uses the new Trinny stack .
I think that she paid £150 for it .
She looks very natural .

Bare minerals has been recommended by several of my friends .

I use Lisa Armstrong from Avon .
It's on sale at the moment and is so affordable .
I'm only sorry that Avon have decided not to stock it anymore .
Avon is reasonably priced and if you aren't accustomed to skin products and wearing make up - why not experiment ?

Make up isn't cheap .

If you have a make over -please don't feel obliged to buy the expensive recommended products .
Walk away and have a coffee and a think .

My daughter had make over in Boots .
She looked like Coco the Clown .
She doesn't tan at all .
Her skin is really pale .She's blond .
The beautician covered her face and neck with a thick layer of yellow foundation and finished it of with an orange lipstick .
We thanked her politely before we both collapsed into fits of laughter - thankfully out of her sight .

I have memories of being intimidated into buying expensive products and not using them .

Do you have skin product using/make up wearing friends -do ask their advice /get them to go with you .

I’m 71 and I hate the feeling of makeup on my face too. I wear eye makeup and lipstick every day but haven’t found a foundation, tinted moisturiser, bb cream or cc cream that I’m comfortable with. Tried and binned so many. Nothing looked natural or felt as though it wasn’t there. I use a face primer (either Look Fabulous Forever or Clarins) to blur pores etc and a bit of concealer (currently Laura Mercier) under my eyes and on one of my many brown spots which is a bit larger so more obvious than the others. That works fine for me. I have also found a Clinique moisturiser which is supposed to fade brown spots, haven’t been using it for long but it does seem to be making a difference.

I use Origins tinted moisturiser which had a spf of 40 so 2 jobs in one. Apply with a brush, lasts for ages. That plus a soft eye pencil.

Bare Minerals, go to your local department store to their stand and ask for advice and you should receive free samples also.

I swear by Bare Minerals, it suits my sensitive skin. It's not cheap, but you can always find offers online. Lots of tutorials online on how to apply it.

I would suggest that you pop along to Boots - sorry GNetters for name dropping there - and let one of their staff on the cosmetics counter assess your skin tone and type.

I have always found their No7 range to be light in texture and not too costly either.

And please!....dont forget to moisturise daily!

I find Clinique CC cream perfect. It is a light moisturiser which evens out skin tone. It is also Factor 15.
