Am 60 next month. Sick to death of my long hair. Had it short for years then COVID growth did its thing.

Me in the pic with long hair and then a model with the short hair I’d love. Can my ageing face and jawline take short bob hair at 60?

Advice welcome or I’ll be 80 with long scraggly hair!!!

Last time I went @snowberryZ I had layers cut in last time. (See pic). It’s made my hair feel a bit thin at the front. I’ve fine hair but loads of it.

@J52!!!! Yes I have a massive regal head. On a bad day, when tired, it’s just a very long ageing landscape of sleep creases and wrinkles!

@Phillippa111 I need a new hairdresser I think. We’ve gotten used to each other and a bit lazy. I go for the same thing each time then half an hour after it’s done, it’s scraped back under a cap!

@Nanna58, yes I feel it’s pulling an often tired face down further.

Thanks for the kind compliments. Love Diane Keaton’s hair. Can’t go too short as in pixi as I have a wrinkly chin and ears now! What’s THAT about!? ??‍♂️ Also, did pixi in 2016 (pic)

Sago

I have to disagree with Aldom I think the OP looks fabulous.

yes, so do I, what wonderful hair.
If you want to make a change AuntEleanorsCat then try a fringe or a side swept fringe before you go for a cut.
a bob can look very severe on an older woman.

We wish nothing but the best for you-ooo...
Honestly, you'd look great with a tea cosy on your head.
I do think a choppy bob would look fab, though.

Although long is nice, when it's in as good a condition as yours.

Adele!!! I bet she’d be thrilled, poor love ?

Go shorter gradually. You have lovely thick hair and the colour suits you. Have a few inches off and if you like it keep it . If not you have a choice of going shorter or letting it grow.

I had my chin length bob cut into a "Judi Dench" style about six weeks ago, and it has transformed my look. I'm 78, by the way, with problems in my shoulders which make looking after my hair difficult. I have very fine, thin hair, which you are very lucky not to have, but, with the additional use of a tiny amount of Small Talk thickening cream which someone on here recommended, it looks great and is very easy to look after. I say take the plunge!

I also have long hair which is very thick...I wear it in a bun most days...2 years ago I decided to get it cut into a bob...It was lovely leaving the hairdresser but omg it was hard work for me trying to dry it and then straighten it with my ghds...If I get it cut again it will be a pixie cut...

Lovely hair AuntieEleanorsCat - is that your natural colour?

Yes, I think a jaw-length bob with a not-too-thick fringe would suit you, longer than that of the model.

RichmondPark1 Thu 28-Jul-22 14:45:14

Oh my goodness, you're lovely!

I think your hair suits you perfectly just as it is. Lovely colours and in such beautiful condition. Elegant up and relaxed down. If I were you I wouldn't change a thing. I'd say you were in your 40s if you hadn't given your age.

You've inspired me to up my hair and make up game.

If you do have it cut will you show us after photos please?

lovebeigecardigans1955 Thu 28-Jul-22 12:24:57

I've got a short pixie style at 67 and it seems all right. Your hair doesn't look too thin or fine so I think you'd get away with shorter hair OP. If not it always grows back.

Can you download an App that will enable you to take a photo of yourself and experiment with hairstyles?

Philippa111 Thu 28-Jul-22 12:14:33

I would find a very good hairdresser and get advice. You can do this before you make the actual appointment.

They spend all day looking at the shapes of faces, the type and quality of hair etc.. They will know if layering will look good, or a blunt cut etc.

My hairdresser is expensive but very skilful and I know I will get a cut that suits my hair and face and in the end will be low maintenance and I'll look my best on a daily basis.

It's an area I am willing to spend money on as I don't have 'bad hair days'... I make savings in other areas.

High*

J52 Thu 28-Jul-22 11:59:24

I think a long Bob would suit you, your hair seems in very good condition. As you have a height forehead, perhaps a loose sweeping fringe as well.

Nanna58 Thu 28-Jul-22 11:41:18

Short - not sure how the clothing crept in!

Nanna58 Thu 28-Jul-22 11:40:36

You have a lovely face- in my opinion your hair pulls it down and obscures it - think the shirt would look wonderful ?

Sago Thu 28-Jul-22 11:37:16

I have to disagree with Aldom I think the OP looks fabulous.

Esmay Thu 28-Jul-22 10:35:22

Wow !

You are a very attractive lady .
You have beautiful bone structure ,skin and hair .

Smile !

Wear your hair up and ring the changes .

Wear a slightly darker lipstick and use a lip liner .

I'm not crazy about the bob , but do try it for a change .

It's easy to grow it out !

glammanana Thu 28-Jul-22 10:17:59

I think a sharp cut bob would look fabulous even think of a fringe as your thick hair will take it.
This is something I have been thinking of for quite a while as my own hair is waist length now and I need a radical change of style I am 70+ and wear my hair up all the time so time for a change I feel.

Aldom Thu 28-Jul-22 09:59:50

I think your looks would be enhanced by having your hair bobbed. In my opinion its current length it fails to bring out your best features. I really don't think it suits you pulled off your face either. smile

shysal Thu 28-Jul-22 09:53:32

The midi bob style is popular at the moment, Mel C has it, to about shoulder length, wavy with a very sharp cut. At least you would still be able to put it up when you want.

Sago Thu 28-Jul-22 09:33:52

Don’t go too short, what about something in between?
I’m thinking Diana Keaton, Anthea Turner.

snowberryZ Thu 28-Jul-22 09:32:40

I think you should get some layers cut it.
The long style drags your face down too much.

FannyCornforth Thu 28-Jul-22 09:14:29

You’ve got amazing bone structure, beautiful skin and lovely thick hair.
Quite frankly you’re going to look fabulous whatever you do!

MarinaL Thu 28-Jul-22 01:02:48

A chin length bob with a fringe would suit you. I envy your thick hair, mine is so fine!
