For example I lost most of my hair through chemo and some has grown back so I have very very short close cropped hair and have discovered it actually suits me, and have pretty much abandoned wig scarf etc.

I also can’t wear black any more (my mother was the same)

I've developed this odd sneer I think maybe a mini stroke a few years ago and my arms are dreadful despite playing golf and netball. I think I'm going to develop a multi layered style of dressing floaty things and scarves to disguise it all. DH has a portrait of me at 35 pm his desk ..drives me bloody mad I would like to set light to it.

Hallo , as a fashion hairstyle the shampoo and set please for men is gaining popularity. I have white hair and at 66 years old and a heterosexual man it suits me very well . A lot of the women liked my hairstyle done like this, I have to wear skirts of course with hairstyle, but long and maxi skirts nd long dresses only. I was surprised recently to see mini skirts handed in to charity shops mainly blue denim and black leather material. Mini skirts are not suitable to wear anyone can be raped by a group of people. Always dress modestly .

Blimey - little house on the prairie look!

My hair’s a nice shade of grey and I usually have a purple streak. I wear a lot of black, navy or charcoal in the Winter, but with bright scarves/bags to draw the eye away from the rest!! I’m just glad there’s nothing seriously wrong with me - long may that last.

I could be a trendsetter ? and make my own in matching or co-ordinating fabrics

Doodledog Fri 26-Aug-22 20:30:50

Well, you never know. Bonnets might catch on as fashion items grin

GrandmasueUK Fri 26-Aug-22 20:21:04

I’m thinking I should get a bonnet now Doodledog, preferably one with extra hair attached. I tried one of those hair pieces that sit on top of the head. It looked like a curly hat and was completely the wrong colour! When I FaceTime the family I have to make sure I don’t have the light behind me as I look bald.

Menopause curls totally missed me. I’ve had my hair cut short-not quite a pixie cut since before Covid. I thought I’d let it go grey, but I can’t quite bring myself to do it, partly because of all the long haired young things I work with. This summer, the sun gave me highlights, for free.
Like many on here, I don’t wear much black tops any more, but I wear lots of white tops and I only have 2 pairs of boots with heels now.

Cumlygirl! grin

I didn't even notice that grin. If 'comely' is a euphemism for overweight, it's not far from the truth, although 'girl' has been pushing it for a few decades now.

Try putting the elastic of the sleep cap behind your ears. Mine won't stay on unless I do that. It looks terrible, but we have to suffer for our comeliness.

That's very fetching, GrandmaSue. Is that a bonnet you have fastened with the blue bow?

I don’t wear black now as it makes me look ill. I don’t wear high or polo necks now as I feel too hot , I wore polo necks a lot when I was young.

Apart from that I wear whatever I like although can’t manage high heels any more as balance not great due to spinal stenosis. However I love bright colours and wear trousers, dresses, skirts, shorts whatever I feel like. I’m not a believer in a “ certain wardrobe only” when you’re older

GrandmasueUK Fri 26-Aug-22 15:17:56

I decided I’d like to try a ‘beach wave’ hairstyle, so I got myself one of those hair curling machines that suck the hair in and curl it.
Well … instead of the waves I got Shirley Temple curls, unfortunately they still didn’t go into waves when I brushed them out. It’s a good job I did it at night and only the family saw me.
How I looked a) and how I imagined it b) ??

FannyCornforth Fri 26-Aug-22 15:11:29

I have a sleep cap too, but it won’t stay on.
There’s not a great deal that I can do with mine, because I can’t grow a fringe.
I just put clips in the front to give it a bit in height.
And I cut bits off it myself, more like pruning really

FannyCornforth Fri 26-Aug-22 15:08:52

Cumlygirl! grin

Doodledog Fri 26-Aug-22 14:57:33

I do the cumlygirl thing too, Fanny. I use Only Curls products (I even have a sleep cap!)

I am going to find a new hairdresser to look at it with fresh eyes and help me decide what to do with it.

My hair is very thin due to chemo I have been a blonde
grey for a long time I keep it short .I have very sparse eyebrows and if I don't pencil them in I look washed out I suit bright colours best but I'm still here even though I have some false bits ?

Caleo Fri 26-Aug-22 14:32:46

I used to have lovely feet and legs but swollen now with oedema so I wear trousers nearly all the time.

Susie42 Fri 26-Aug-22 12:32:05

I too lost my hair during chemo and I loved the close crop look but as it grew my hair became very curly so I had it cut very short and it eventually went back to pre-chemo. However, I have kept it pretty short since although I do find I need a bit of slap or I look a bit grim. I can't wear black or white near my face as I look ready for the undertaker.

I no longer have an 18 inch waist ?

I had to change my footwear following my brain injury, I literally cannot walk in many shoes, so that hasn’t changed due to age.

Now my hair is turned silver I’m still working out what colours suit me.

henetha Fri 26-Aug-22 11:50:15

I love that, Yammy, - your bottom has migrated to the front.
Mine too! And there was me thinking I was pregnant! grin.
Oh, for an easy way to avoid the diabetic police! confused

FannyCornforth Fri 26-Aug-22 11:48:27

Doodledog I just let it do it’s own thing! It’s in the best nick it has been since I was in my 20s. It was falling out for years due to an undiagnosed vitamin D deficiency.
I (loosely) follow the curly girl method (loads on line)
People probably think that it looks a blooming mess most of the time, but after being that close to having a hair system, I just love my new improved hair.
I would have just shaved it all off, but I’m far too fat to confidently carry off that look at the moment!

Thanks for the thread Lucca, I love chatting about stuff like this! thanks

am in my early 60s with long blonde wavy hair which fortunately is still thick, am debating about having it cut off as I do not want to look like mutton dressed as lamb. Have put weight on but that was partly due to IVF and the menopause and am working on trying to get rid of the belly. Eyes are smaller and I seem to be getting the neck wobble which I detest but I look so like my mum in the mirror, is it me or my mum?

My hair is newly curly too (for about two - three years)
I didn’t realise that it was a menopause thing.
Mind you, I’ve been going through peri menopause/ menopause for the past 15 years, and it’s only now that I’ve realised what was going on! blush

Apparently so, according to my hairdresser.

What have you done with yours? I am keen to keep the curls, as it's a nice change after years of it being straight, but don't know if I'm too old for long curly tresses.

I too tend to choose navy over black these days. I used to wear a lot of black. And I've taken to bright colours big time. They do cheer me up somehow. And I almost always have a pink streak in my grey hair these days. I love it!
I'm dressing more for comfort these days, with so many aches and pains in joints etc. Tight clothes make it worse.
As for my bottom, it seems to have disappeared somehow!
The most important thing now is for me to lose a bit of weight. I'm trying to...

You sound like me henetha,I wear more navy and bright colours now. My bottom has gone unfortunately it has migrated to the front and I have a pot belly. Try to get your weight down before the Diabetes police catch up with you.smile

Lucca

Ah well…the wrinkles. I was really wrinkly (actually lined.) A few days of steroids post chemo has removed a lot of them !

Best of luck Lucca for the future, don't worry about your hair. My friend is in the same situation and turned up in a wig,it made people stare more than her own thinning locks.
At least your wrinkles have gone my friend looks positively blooming if you did not know.flowers

Doodledog Fri 26-Aug-22 11:24:41

My hair turned curly with menopause, and I've embraced it. I used to wear it short and changed the colour regularly, but during lockdown it grew and I only realised it was curly when I went to the hairdresser for a post-lockdown shearing.

I have let grow down to shoulder length to give me more choices for styling it, and am nearly ready to put it in the hands of a new hairdresser. It is getting back to its natural colour, too - still no grey, but it does need livening up, I think. Again, I fancy a change.
