Well! "It looked great" on the model [hmm] (clothes) [confused]
(52 Posts)Whilst at work this week, I have been coming in and I have to walk past the George clothing, all week there has been this lovely deep blue longline polo kneck jumper.
I am going out for lunch today and thought I would love that jumper with some new black jeggings and my black boots.
(I will look good in those) so I thought!
Purchased the jumper yesterday, I'm around a 16 ish.
Bought the 12/14as they are big sloppy sizes.
Couldn't wait to get home try on with my attire (huh)
I was sooooooo dissapointed, the jumper made me look like the michelin man, I have put bit of weight on, I weight about 13 n half stone and think I must be about 5'4" so not really small.
It did nothing for me at all, I was quite dissapointed.
So its a rummage through my wardrobe now.
Have you bought things that looked good on others but then when you put them on it's dissapointing?
Beautiful colour jumper, but that’s all the sleeves look dreadful the coat on the other hand is lovely
What you also have to take into account is that these long jumpers can seat so you could end up looking like you’ve had a Brazilian butt lift ?
The cobalt blue is lovely and I do like a tunic. I saw this is Asda and the sizing was enormous, though I suppose it is the styling
Anything in a chunky knit makes me look even bigger than I am - size 18
Ditto batwing sleeves or the t shirt type tops with massive sleeves/armholes which are almost bat wing.
I have never had a waist so belts and pleated skirts make me look like a sack of spuds tied in the middle - as my mother would say. She didn't have a waist either
I think that jumper, especially in the second picture, would flatter no-one. It’s all wrong, and even manages to make the size 6 model look either overweight or in the early stages of pregnancy.
The shape and styling are all wrong. Look at where the shoulder seams are, half way down her upper arms.
I think whatever size a woman is, everyone looks better with a bit of a defined waist.
Maybe that jumper could work with a colour coordinated belt, but not just hanging shapeless.
In my opinion of course.
Other opinions may vary ?
I wanted a fine pleats long skirt.
I tried one on and it made me look like I was wearing a lampshade.
Another fashion failure ??
No Fanny not me lol, but I am on the poster at the garage! ie the Michelin woman. lol .
I love the colour of the jumper, I'm a redhead and suit cobalt blue, but looking at it it would probably come to my knees and sleeves would be far too long.
I have to turn up every pair of trousers I buy nowadays and find it hard to get a size 3 and a half in shoes. Boot season is great because I can wear a size 4 with a couple of pairs of thick socks. Sizing nowadays is a minefield, gone are the days of knowing exactly what size you are in clothes.
Re real women Some people are so literal Fanny .
Sweetpeasue that made me smile.
My head is on the large side. I was told in Accessorise they only do one size! As if we are all the same.
Looking in shoe shops, I can see at a glance they won't fit me
I marvel at people who can buy "off the peg"

^I’m not surprised that it’s unflattering on a ‘real’ woman^
Women come in all shapes and sizes. Which ones are the real ones? Are some of us just virtually women???
That’s why I put it in inverted commas.
It was tongue in cheek.
It’s also quite common parlance.
I meant very young, very slim, very tall women versus everyone else.
I am tall and slim, in fact the same weight as I was in my early 20s. No, I am NOT boasting, the only way I can describe it is that the weight seems to be rearranged differently, and has certainly ‘gone south’ add wrinkles and you do not have a body that should be inflicted on a beach full of holiday makers! Also the colour palette that suited my previously chestnut brown hair had to be totally changed now I am virtually white.
Personally I don’t take any notice of sizes in shop. In a morning, visiting different shops, I could fit into anything from a 10 to a 16, so I do try clothes on before buying.
It is depressing, but then I remember the type of clothes that my grandmother’s generation wore when in their 80s. I tend to stick to jeans and well cut trousers with good quality tops and jackets. My major regret is no longer being able to wear high heels. My mother wore quite high heels well into her 80s.
I am reminded of a quotation from Queen Victoria (though I don’t think she was talking about clothes!) “It will be fine so long as it doesn’t frighten the horses”.
MerylStreep, I agree. I would also add that one should have no illusions about one's shape. I have no waist and never have had a waist, so I have never worn clothes with cinched-in waists, however good they look on others.
In answer to the question, no I don’t. I know what I like and what suits me.
The blue jumper is nice I agree, but I would know at first glance that I could not wear it.
I watched a woman who was trying on a fleece in an outdoor shop and when she had gone I tried it on and posed in the mirror and bought it, but I dislike it now. It's a dull green which is not flattering. It looked good on her.
My DGS asked me this summer "where's your waist granny?" I think he was meaning a waist in general but it suddenly made me self-conscious.
Nearly EVERYTHING looks wrong!
So I'm 5ft 3.
Sleeve lengths cover my hands.
V necks - - - showing half of boobs.
I have a little head--hats too big.
I don't want side splits in dresses - - they're even in some coats now!
These huge wide sleeves in jumpers-on someone my size?
Materials are so thin, can see every lump - I'm not overweight, just not toned! ?
What's with these frills going over shoulders. Think Little House on the Prairie.
Lovely colour though!
Yes thats the one, we had it on a model in our store and it dii look really good. Not to worry.
Calistimon21 LOL lol ohhh you have made me laugh lol, I feel much better now.
She does look lovely doesn't she.
Coat - out of stock in all sizes.
I'm not surprised, the coat is lovely
Shorts - Don Estelle.

This one, bikergran from Asda? (Photo too large to download!)
If so, just look at the models's sizing?
Sizing
• Model height is 5'7"
• Model wears a size 6
(So that's what a size 6 looks like??)
Oh, I thought that was you in the picture bikergran and thinking it looked fine!
Model size 6? She looks about a 16 in that, not flattering at all then.
I bought a couple of those last year. I'm 5ft 7 but even so they are not even remotely flattering. I just wear them around the house, nice and warm but not really very attractive.
The coat looks nice though.

Well imho it even looks a mess on her...

Static cling? It would actually look better belted, perhaps a wide black patent leather belt. Providing you’re a size 6
