I've never had any problems with Specsavers. It's a while now since my eyes have changed at all, although I did get knew glasses this time because I was so bored with the ones I was wearing. Some years ago I bought a pair of big purple framed glasses which looked great but weighed a ton and left big red marks on my nose. When I took them back they happily exchanged them for a lighter pair.

So now we move onto Glasses (not drinking glasses , wearing glasses)
(57 Posts)The blue Jumper was a wash out.
So onto new glasses wear them all the time, I feel naked without them.
But! I must admit I have the same style for goodness knows how many years, I am due eye test long overdue.
I tend to go for the metal frames sort of goldie with a nice side to them, nothing expensive.
So along with the (blue jumper) I feel I need a diff style of glasses.
I look around and see some lovely styles especialy the Cat Eye styles, they look great on others.
I went on specavers site, as you can take a photo and vurtualy try on the glasses.
Yet agan! they looked awful on me, I tried every pair shown, but they seem to look heavy on my face, but I suppose its getting used to a diff style and look.
I am sick of my boring look and really want a change.
Made me really think when I got on the bus this week, I thought I had been cloned (or all the others had been cloned from me)! I took notice all round and would say 90% of the ladies were around 60/70 ish range. All had short grey hair various styles, 80% had glasses on, we all seem to look the same. Not that theres anything wrong with that but I felt really old when I go off the bus (with my bus pass\) lol.
Have you taken a stride in a different direction, Glasses etc, did you get used to your new style, it's a costly mistake if you choose the wrong glasses as like clothes you can't really return them.I usulay take my dd with me and she gives me honest opinion, Im also in and out of the optitions like a ferret choosing them as I won',t be rushed by the staff, I like to take my time.
I last used Specsavers about 3 years ago, I had to return my varifocals three times as they weren’t right, got my money back. Then went to Asda, retested, glasses were fine, the two prescriptions were different, I’ll never use Specsavers again.
bikergran Were all the old ladies on the bus dressed the same? that, for me, is the killer.
Lucca I have moved from colour (purple) back to brown, because, self congratulatory as it sounds, brown is a colour which really suits me and flatters me and I have hair to match, 50% real, 50% coloured. My hair is short, It has been short for the last 50 years, but not the pixie cut beloved by advertisers.
My anorak is a lovely burnt orange, another of my favourite colours, and not a known name.
We have been with our independent optician for the last 40 years. It is a couple and we arrived in the town, just as they started business. Four of us all with complex prescriptions, we must have been a godsend to their cash flow!
They offer me children's frames because they fit me (I have quite a small head) and are so much cheaper than adult frames. Since cataract operations, I only need glasses for disatnce work and they cheerfully tell me that as I wear them only intermittently, the cheaper the frame the better.
As we're entitled to free eye tests it might be a good idea to get three done at different places and see if they're the same. Although if they're not then that just leaves you in a mess!
I think thats what put me off Specsavers Chestnut
I went for my eye test well must be 4 yrs ago as they have just messged me.
I felt my eye test was rushed, plus I couldn't understand what the girl was saying, she spoke to fast and broken English.
Didn't feel confident in chooses glasses there and then and wasn't in the mood. Two day later I phione and spoke to someone senior, said I felt like I had been rushed etc, she apologised but said the allocated time was adhered to
Anyway I went for another eye test the week after, same place, my resuts were differen from the first test.As yet I havn't been back tomSpecsavers, but will possibly give them another try.
That's interesting to hear, if the prescriptions were wrong that means the eye tests were not done properly. The last eye test I had resulted in glasses which were out of focus, and I felt the test had been rushed. You need plenty of time to say which lens is 'best' and maybe 3 or more attempts for each one. You can't rush it. If you feel you're being rushed then stop the test and tell them to slow down. That's what I intend to do. It's too important, you must have the test done accurately.
I returned 3 pairs in one year once.
In all 3 cases they said the rage inducing words *you'll get used to them*? No I’m not going to bloody get used to them at £500/£600 a pair.
I’d got to the stage where I thought ^im never going to be able to change my glasses^?
So I took another punt. I showed the optician my prescriptions.
All 3 were wrong.
I was so elated when I tried on the 4th pair I hugged her.
Rimless for me, too; I have verifocal lenses for occasional use but wear contact lenses most of the time. For them, I have a reading prescription in my right eye and the distance correction for the left. It avoids having to add reading glasses to distance contacts, which is what I did for some years.
Glasses-I’m glad it’s not just me! I gave up on frames because in 8 years I’ve only ever had one pair I liked. I look at other peoples glasses, I think they look nice, try them on, then go back to rimless.
Chestnut this made me laugh
Have you looked around? Each age group is like that.
DGD hated school uniform, but when she’s out with her friends, they are like clones. Fortunately she’s avoided fat lips and slug eyebrows, but they’re all there, beautifully made up, balayaged hair, and whatever fashion length of skirt is in. From the back I can’t always pick her out.
My new favourites from Asda.
P.S I think they were about £150 for the two.
I am going to have to try and find a pair with very slim sides as since getting my hearing aids there is just too much going on behind the ear! and no I don't have short hair either.
I love those colourful frames, Lucca.
I've been wearing glasses since I was 16. but only part time.
I'm just a bit short sighted, so only wear them for driving and for watching tv, and sometimes round shops. Oh, and cinema.
I had two for the price of one at Specsavers last year. One frame is red and is reactolight. (is that the word?). I wear those for driving etc. The others are blue and I just wear those for tv. I'm about to be assessed for cataract removal, so shall wait until afterwards to have new glasses. Maybe they can correct my vision, hopefully, ,so I don't need them.

Don't like frames that detract/take over from the face beneath.
Or enhance it ?
I am still using a fantastic pair of Nikon Home & Office varifocal lenses bought in 2014 for £265 (lenses only). This year thought it was time to replace them, went to an independent local optician to get the same, but for some reason they were no good and I had a complete refund for the frames and lenses (nearly £300). Really disappointing, not sure if it was a bad eye test or the lenses at fault. So now have to start again at another optician.
You CAN return glasses, I've literally just been on Boots website to see about glasses as I am really unhappy with my new ones, and rather disappointed with the staff, too, to be honest! I thought I'd picked out a nice pair, but it seems no matter what I do I just can't get them comfortable! I've looked at images of people wearing glasses and it seems 99% of them have the bridge of the glasses resting on the bridge of their noses, while the bridge of my glasses is about a cm above mine.
They're going back!!!
I have to wear my glasses all the time so I splash out. Just think how much they cost per day if your lenses don’t need changing for a couple of years. I’m on my second pair from Tiffany. Quite light frames and bling side piece.
I agree with the OP in that so many female pensioners look the same. I think more colour is needed whether it’s scarves, glasses, shoes etc. A little bit of make up too makes a difference.
I have Specsavers rimless titanium specs and have done so for over 6 years its buy one get second half price. They are very light and visually "non specs" on the face.
What has changed over time is the shape of the lenses, as the fashion now is for a more rounded lense
I suppose I avoid a stereotype as am usually dressed for the gym, bright trainers, slimline padded coat, bright funny hat and gloves in winter.
As I didn't need a change of glasses last year, or the year before, I am probably due for a change this year. My frames are very narrow, dark, bronze, titanium and a sort of rounded off oblong. I have been wearing varifocals for well over 25 years. I've always been long sighted but now also need them for close work. I'm not sure I want much of a change as I feel comfortable in these glasses. the titanium frames are so strong that when I fell and cut my eyebrow badly, the frames didn't buckle or twist, though the lens was scratched and had to be replaced.
Don't like frames that detract/take over from the face beneath.
I wish I'd bought something like those, Lucca but thought I'd be sensible this time and go for plain bronze metal.
Mistake.
Luca they are the same as the ones I bought except mine are blue/green and have a magnetic fitment so they can be either plain see through or sunglasses between £250 and £350.
