Advice needed re shoe stretchers

I have a weird big toe that points upwards, so shoes tend to press hard on it making it feel bruised and aching. The more expensive and well made the shoe - the greater the bruising!
I've been trawling Amazon for shoe trees, but am overwhelmed by the huge number of stretchers/trees available, all virtually the same.
I wondered how many others of us use such things, and which ones would you recommend?
I don't have any bunion problems - just this over large, upwards-pointing big toe.

Only leather stretches not plastic. So first you need to choose your shoe carefully. Leather upper with (if lined) a leather lining.
One problem is the toe area of a shoe will have an extra lining for shape. This might be in a material that will not stretch.
In the old days the best shoe stretcher was the end of a broom.

This definition mentions a leather toe puff. However many are made in a synthetic material.

Stuffing the shoes with wet newspaper stretches them.

Just put in as much as you can, and leave it to dry out.

You can put extra in where the problem area is.
