I am going to a summer ball and would like get a vintage/used ball gown and would love some suggestions of websites please. It's just a golf club do not a palace. Thankyou

Have you tried any charity shops? They might not have any on display but would perhaps look through their stock? Some charities have websites or an eBay presence.

Or could you hire one? Our amdram theatre has an extensive wardrobe department and hires out costumes for a reasonable fee so local theatre groups is another avenue to explore.

Good luck!

Try looking HERE.
They are based in Darwen, Lancashire. I've looked at their site before, but never actually bought anything.

We have a charity shop (in Harlow) who specialise in vintage clothing and accessories. I found them when I wanted to make a donation. Google for your local area, there are lots of them around.

ebay. Got a fabulous one there. It didn't fit properly but fits DGD like a glove and she plans to wear it as a prom dress this summer.

It cost me £25. pale grey and embroidered all over.

I will second eBay. I have three that I bought for cruises. All three cost less than £30 each.

An indication of where you live would be helpful to give advice.

Look to my closet, most items are 'vintage' - have a go.

Yes- straight to the op shop( I think you call them charity shops) Choose an area maybe in the country or where there are a lot of older people !

When you say Vintage do you mean one from the 50/60s if so you are , then you probably need to be no bigger than a size 12 as sizing was very small back then as ladies tended to be slimmer and shorter than they are now, does anywhere in your area have a good quality used dress shop? They usually do mother or the bride / groom but will often have evening gowns too also if you ask in Charity shops they often have some out the back rather than on display so they don't get damaged / dirty. I find travelling a bit away from your home town to some of the more " posher" areas often have a better selection in their charity shops. Also online hire agency are becoming a big thing with even M&S getting in on the deal .The only thing with hiring online is you don't see it till it arrives and if it doesn't fit or you don't like it you would be a bit stuck.
