Have used many face creams over the years. Now want to try something new or maybe go back to an old one. One that moisturises but lifts and firms, reduces wrinkles. If there is such a thing!
What do people recommend?

My mum had fantastic skin even @. 97 years old. No wrinkles and lovely and soft. Everyone commented. She never smoked or drank and as her skin was pale Irish skin, she never sunbathed but loved being outside in a big hat. She used Pond’s skin cream.

I use Cetaphil for dry/sensitive skin in a pump dispenser and have done for the past few years. It seems to suit me. I have used Clarins for many years but this seems as good and is much cheaper. I always have a jar of Clarins Instant Smooth cream though, for smoothing wrinkles and fine lines but barely use it since going on to Cetaphil.

Look at John Lewis.. Evolve Organic Bio - Retinol +Vit C booster. Couple of drops added to your face cream. Works for me, big difference. Atm it's on offer for £23.
Whole range good value, this was given 5 stars in review.

Neutrogena hydro boost gel moisturizer works for me.I’ve been using Nivea soft for years and recently switched to Neutrogena and find it really does a good job,it’s light and soaks right in.

I use L’Oreal, I have sensitive skin and have problems with many other brands.

Expensive creams are a waste of money. I have Botox and fillers, no guilt as am abstemious in lots of ways. Creams will never shift wrinkles. End result? Fabulous as long as not overdone.
My daughter has just brought me Retin A from the Gulf, not available over the counter here, Retinol is its poor relation. Its recommended to use only twice a week.
On a serious note, Vaseline is excellent and recommended by a burns surgeon for the skin. I use it to remove eye makeup too.
Another old favourite is Ponds Cold Cream.

I don’t wash my face at night, unless I have had make-up on, which is rare nowadays, but use dove moisturising soap in the mornings, plus always Olay Sensitive Beauty Fluid on face and neck in the mornings. It suits my skin , but with all these tips remember we all have different types of skin. Greasy, dry or whatever. I am 77 this year and am always taken for younger, just yesterday a health visitor said she thought I was the daughter of the person she was due to visit … I have a smooth skin but am overweight so that smooths you out, no wrinkles, but a double chin that is not improving now, BUT I am fair with some ginger and have almost always avoided the sun, dislike gardening and many outdoor activities! The main issue here is the REST of my body…!! Although I took care of face and neck I never knew what to do with dry legs. Suggestions please?

Re dry legs, mine below the knee will resemble a prehistoric scaly lizard if not thoroughly moisturised after every shower.

Lately I had the idea of using up several tubes of hand cream that had been presents - quite a bit richer than ordinary body moisturiser - on my legs and I must say the improvement is noticeable.

Lavie Labs. I have been using their products for several years and it is wonderful. I am almost 74 but always taken for younger.

Because I’m very sensitive to most perfumes, I only use generic “aqueous” creams to wash and moisturise. If feeling very flush, I use the QV moisturiser. It has served me well for over 20 years and is pretty cheap!

Retinol and factor 50 sun cream really help. But too late for me…

Vintagenonna,
Try old vaseline.

A good thick layer across your beauty mirror BEFORE you peer into it and, hey presto!, you look as lovely as you feel inside.

For extra effect, smear a little on your 'dear other's' spectacles each morning.

Hilarious and probably very true! Think I'll try the last tip...

Beauty Pie products are very good. You pay a subscription of about 54.00 if you pay it in one go per year or 10.00 per month. That opens up top quality products at a price which is a fraction of what they cost for non-members. I have tried Youth bomb serum and Youth bomb moisturiser after reading about it in India Knights beaty column in the Times Magazine. I also bought it for my daughter and also the neck cream in the same range for her which she swears by. You need to have at least one skin cycle which I think is 28 days before you really see the benefits and up to 3 skin cycles if you are older like me. I am impressed by it and have just received my second order.

I use Murad which is tad expensive but is meant for mature skin. I’m pleased with results.

poochwool Mon 17-Apr-23 21:39:07

I use Dr.Jart+

JPB123 Mon 17-Apr-23 20:56:37

Liz Earle for me….superskin moisturiser.

SueEH Mon 17-Apr-23 19:53:28

I always have a huge bottle of Palmers Cocoa Butter on the go as I know it won’t irritate my skin.
Tend to try different things as well, Clinique and No 7 are always good.
But.. I had a facial from Tropic last week and my skin has never felt so good so I’ve ordered the travel set to see how my skin reacts.

I didn't think sunscreen was needed if the UV Index was under 3. Even up to 5 is minimal risk.

welbeck Mon 17-Apr-23 18:37:27

do people put the sunscreen under or over the moisturiser ?

Bijou Mon 17-Apr-23 18:32:20

Met a doctor when in Spain and he said Nivea was the best so I have stuck to that.

Eloethan Mon 17-Apr-23 18:24:17

I got a sample of a Lancome face cream in a collection I bought at a special discount in store. It was lovely - and smelt lovely. I can't remember the name now but when I looked up the price it was in the range of £100. Needless to say, I didn't buy any! I will stick to one of the L'Oreal range or Nivea Soft.

Clarins is good, and their foundations.

Annie25 Mon 17-Apr-23 18:08:01

I've tried Aldi creams before but had really bad reaction ,have used no 7 or any Boots own brand fro years ....I'm 70 my skins not bad at all .. I'm careful in other ways too especially in the sun always use 50+ facial sun cream, drink plenty of water and don't smoke at all or drink (very little). Think good genes help too .

Byrle1 Mon 17-Apr-23 17:35:56

Factor 50 sunscreen on face every day and Dior super potent serum
