The “perfect” white cotton T shirt

Does it exist?
Unpacking my summer clothes I find I have a ridiculous number of white T shirts - none of them just right - and the result of my endless quest for the perfect one.
Is it too much to ask?
Thick white cotton - pure cotton, not “cotton rich”
Round neck - not too high, not too scooped, boat neck acceptable
Reasonable length
Generously cut around the middle - boxy shape ideal
Side slits
Short or just above the elbow sleeves.
Adding up all the T shirts I have got, some now relegated to pj status, I could have bought one or two from a high end designer for the same money!
I don’t necessarily want cheap T shorts, they never last anyway, but I am still hunting.
Any suggestions please?

I’m always looking for cream ones - good quality pure cotton, elbow length sleeves.

Whistles at John Lewis do a lovely cream T shirt. They are priced at £35. Worth the money I think for a quality, dressy T. Not an elbow length sleeve though.

It doesn't seem to judging from your post, at least not in the UK.

The German chainstore KIK has very good t-shirts if that helps.

Sunspel. They are not 'just' 'perfect' fit. They are woven and sewn square (remember that?!) Are not heavy and not at all transparent. Not for me but these are the reasons people are willing to pay.

I love T shirts, wear them all the time. Layered under warmers in winter - with jackets, tucked in jeans all summer.

White and many soft colours and red, black, or navy as well.

At the risk of getting ostracised, I wear Primark white T shirts. They're ideal for my requirements, last longer than one would expect & are cheap so, if there is a nasty accident with spaghetti bolognese, it's easy to get another without feeling the need to justify the purchase.

After meeting a woman who worked in International Sales for a clothing manufacturer who explained to me that all the T-shirts they made were the same, whether for Next, Topshop, New Look, Primark etc., just with different labels, I decided never to buy an expensive Tshirt again. If Primark was closer to me or sold online I would buy more from them.

A white teeshirt would look like a shroud on me! (I know they come in colours nowadays.) An affordable teeshirt in colours just as you describe Foxygloves would be marvellous but fear we will need to dream on.

Kettlewell Colours. Lovely quality, huge selection. Not the cheapest but not terribly expensive either.

A friend buys hers from Uniqlo.. quite a wide range of styles and they are great quality.

Try White Stuff. They may suit.

I've been buying Cotton Traders tops and tee shirts for years now. Lots of different colours - including white. Some are unisex, so you have to be careful to order the right size. I like to have a choice of neckline, preferring V neck, as I have a short neck.

Uniglo used to do cream, maybe worth a look?

Another vote for Lands End here. Good quality and good choice of colours, as well as white

Bijou Sun 21-May-23 11:54:40

I have never bought or worn T shirts.

My perfect white t shirt is from Cos. A bit elderly now like its owner but still looking good. Another hugs fan of Uniqlo, great quality, but a bit peeved that you now have to pay for returns

I find Toast T shirts fit well - nice and loose - there may be a white one but they are expensive.

I have found that if you find a tee shirt with the right cut for you, it is made from the wrong material. If you find one with the right material and the right cut, you can bet your bottom dollar, you won't be able to get it in the colour you want. I have a whole wardrobe full of clothes that aren't exactly what I want. Mind you, my body is like that too!

Norah by good length, I was actually meaning the short sleeve is a good length. Not a cap sleeve.
I'm 5'4" and the T shirt would tuck in without popping out.

Thank you.

Sarah76, did they weave gold dust into the cotton? Those are expensive!

I know made in Uk , or made in Canada will be more expensive because of the wages, but I can find an ethically farmed cotton, made in Canada t-shirt for about 26 GBP.

I have a linen knit one from Whistles, quite fine but just looks the business. I wear it time after time after time.

Foxygloves Thu 18-May-23 21:06:46

Ouch!
I have probably spent more on “the search” but bearing in mind the running dangers from spag bol, soup, splashback from sardine tins and little chocolatey fingers, these are sadly not for me!

Sarah76 Thu 18-May-23 20:13:31

This seems a ludicrous price to me, but The Times reckons these are the “perfect T shirts”…….
