Tricky isn’t it. I love a plain white T-shirt top. Mine a
So very unhelpful was made for me of a thick cotton. Perhaps that’s the idea find a dressmaker who can do this.

If ever I wear a white or cream top I spill something down it, NanaDana.
Murphy's Law!
It doesn't happen so often with coloured or patterned tops.

Yes- that’s the argument against an expensive one! Even opening a tin of sardines…..😱😱😱

That's why I sew. The quality in shops has really gone down. Thank you for reminding me that I love a side slit on my tops. Where's my fabric?

I like Lands'End Tshirts.

Women's Supima Short Sleeve Crew Neck T-shirt. From £12

No white T-shirts in my wardrobe. What I really need is a good selection of upper garments with colours that will blend in with coffee, tea, spag bol, chilli, gravy, tomato sauce, and the occasional red wine stains... Failing that, a grown-up version of a "Tommee Tippee" bib would also be a definite bonus... Poor eyesight, shaking hands... Aah, the joys of the elderly at meal-times..

The best ones I ever bought were from George at Asda some years ago but I doubt they have them now.

I've bought long sleeve shirts from Uniclo and can vouch for the quality, maybe their T Shirts match up? Might have a look myself.

Saying you bought t's from Asda made me remember.
When DD1 started working she had to be suited and leather handbagged and shoed. She couldn't afford tops so I got her a load from Asda and cut the label out.
A sniffy colleague asked her where one of them was from,DD1 said" Its Georgio, Oh Armani replied the woman" and DD said "No Asda". wink

Some of them may be what you are looking for? Several are pure cotton.
Not sure about the side slits.

I did get a more expensive one in there about 5 years ago. Was worth the extra money at the time.

Yes, half sleeve (to the elbow) would be good if they could be found anywhere.
Decided I don’t like the look of my upper arms 😧

Men's tees are usually longer, if long is what. you want

My best ones too are from Asda still being used years later. They are quite thin cloth so I go two sizes too large as being thin cloth they drape not cling.

I have a beautiful white pure cotton shirt, not T shirt, bought from F&F a couple of years ago - but so difficult to iron 😫

Casdon Wed 17-May-23 11:27:18

I can recommend one, but it’s not cheap. David Nieper, made in UK, the neckline on it is perfect for me, it’s heavy weight and not clingy. But it’s £59 now.

I’ve got one, bought many many years ago and still as good as new.Thick white cotton, long enough but not too long and a perfect fit.I dread the day it wears out! Now there are no good thick cotton tees to be had they are all paper thin rubbish quality wherever you buy them from.

Me too! My favourite perfect white t shirt was free in a posh hotel in Mauritius. Long way to go for another one! Meanwhile I usually find decent t shirts from Uniqlo.

Shirts 👕 not shorts! 🩳

Foxygloves Wed 17-May-23 10:31:27

Does it exist?
Unpacking my summer clothes I find I have a ridiculous number of white T shirts - none of them just right - and the result of my endless quest for the perfect one.
Is it too much to ask?
Thick white cotton - pure cotton, not “cotton rich”
Round neck - not too high, not too scooped, boat neck acceptable
Reasonable length
Generously cut around the middle - boxy shape ideal
Side slits
Short or just above the elbow sleeves.
Adding up all the T shirts I have got, some now relegated to pj status, I could have bought one or two from a high end designer for the same money!
I don’t necessarily want cheap T shorts, they never last anyway, but I am still hunting.
Any suggestions please?
