Dressing for the heat

I wear jeans all seasons, long sleeves outdoors. In summer - dog walks and gardening can cause me to become warm, I wander in the dog paddling pool, shoes off. Cools me quickly - back to dead-heading.

I keep out of the sun if I can so thin cotton or linen for me that covers arms. Always a hat if I’m outside and I try to keep my back to the sun.
I have sun damaged skin from my childhood and had the end of my nose chopped off a couple of months ago so I am a bit more careful than most.

After a cool shower or bath I put on really loose longish cotton dresses or kaftans .

I had trouble finding the right summer clothes for a few years and got the sewing machine out to make simple kaftans .

Then , my favourite shape came in about three years ago - so no more sewing .

At home , I never wear a bra and I certainly go commando if no one is around .

At night - nothing .

If I feel hot when out I cool down with old fashioned eau de cologne on a baby wipe .

I envy people with wonderful tans .

My skin hates the sun turns red and peels .
I can get a tan , but it's an effort - difficult to keep and my skin turns really itchy .

I prefer a fake one .

I wear three quarter thin leggings with floaty blouses or long thin loose skirts with same blouses day time. If we go out I wear long summer dresses even in this heat I feel suitably dressed.

My legs are not good, so I never wear shorts, when it’s really hot, I tend to wear kaftans, linen trousers and cotton tops..😎

Those shorts look nice, but I stopped wearing shorts some time ago. I have a couple of long, very loose, pure cotton dresses I keep for when it’s very hot. They wash like a dream and no ironing - I just hang them up.
They’re a bit sack-of-potatoes-ish, but when it’s stinking hot I really don’t care.

I like the neutral dress MerylStreep but unfortunately they only have it in XL.

Aldom I got the navy, am now tempted to get some white ones too. J52 yes, they are quite thin but that’s what I want at the moment!

Denim shorts, old cheesecloth shirt here today. The full length light cotton frocks come out when the temperature gets to 30’ish.

Long loose linen frocks. Undies during the day as I leave the house, or people might call. Evening commando

karmalady Sat 17-Jun-23 18:54:15

Long sleeves today, old denims, sunglasses and an spf50 hat. Socks too, as I didn`t want a skin gap.

I was burnt in less than an hour around a month ago. Reason for that garb is that I spent the whole day outside, doing very heavy lifting and laying of new gravel paths and the sun was not going to get my fair skin

Normal for me in the heat, if staying at home, is my hand made linen/viscose long kaftan, which is pure cool comfort

These are so comfy. I’ve got this colour, a dark green and an animal print.

I like the shorts Blossoming.
Lovely colours too. What colour are yours?
Thinking I will order a pair tonight. It will of course start raining non stop as soon as they arrive. grin

I've found dresses in a cotton fabric, A line skirts, loose skirts or shirts to be the coolest. Tend to go one size up so nothing is tight to the body.

FannyCornforth Sat 17-Jun-23 17:28:23

They do look very nice and very cool Blossoming

FannyCornforth Sat 17-Jun-23 17:26:57

It’s always too hot for denim!
I’m permanently hot.

I wear floppy, floaty dresses all year round.
In Winter with leggings and a cardi, in Summer with long cotton pants / short leggings

Blossoming you’ve discovered my secret go to! I’m not a frequent Bonmarche customer, but they used to have a shop locally and once I came across their linen shorts. I’ve had several pairs of them and they’ve lasted years.
I think the newer ones are slightly thinner material.

welbeck Sat 17-Jun-23 17:08:14

i always wear long sleeves if i have to go out in this weather, to minimise sun damage.
i also use SPF 30 or 50 of course, but i prefer to avoid the sun.

Judy54 Sat 17-Jun-23 16:51:01

Definitely linen or cotton and loose garments if possible. I usually go one size bigger in t shirts for the Summer as they are more comfortable to wear. Can't stand tight restrictive clothes in the heat and manmade fibres such as polyester are a big no! no!

mokryna Sat 17-Jun-23 13:34:24

I do envy everyone who doesn’t have to wear compression tights for medical reasons. It’s 30c today but it can be hotter.

Blossoming Sat 17-Jun-23 13:12:18

It’s too hot for denim so for the last two weeks I’ve been practically living in ancient linen pirate pants.

I ordered a pair of linen shorts from Bon Marché online on Thursday, they arrived this morning and they’re perfect.
