Disappearing eyebrows

Until now I have managed to use a variety of techniques to make my eyebrows presentable, however one of the eyebrows has almost disappeared and it’s hard to find anything to fill the gap.

I have an underactive thyroid which causes this problem.

Any suggestions of a pencil/powder would be appreciated.

I feel too old for micro blading.

My friend had hers tattooed about 3 years ago and was terribly upset as they looked like clown’s eyebrows. Huge big half moon shapes. She was recommended to her and she used these templates to show her where they would be, but they weren’t.

Her adult sons made fun of her. She wore dark glasses for months and still has to cover them with makeup and pencil in eyebrows lower down. I told her to go and complain which she did and got half her money back.

My eye brows never totally vanished with chemo - but they didn't come back well either. Wish I could say the same for the chin hairs!

I have moderately luxurious clumps on the inside but then they just stop. I use a soft eyebrow pencil to fairly casually extend them into a decent arch, it makes a big difference to the finished look of my face. Currently using one by Laura Geller but TBH a Superdrug own brand was just as good.

Hetty58 that old lady sounds like Betty Davis in one of her scary roles, such as ‘What happened to Baby Jane’ 😳

Now onto lashes. I use Mavala Double-Lash which is supposed to give ‘longer, fuller, stronger lashes’ and surprisingly after about 3 weeks application nightly it is working, well they are longer at least - a result !

I use a Clinique product which comes in three shades
It’s not an ideal solution, but it’s better than having no eyebrows.

I didn't have any eyebrows at all.
I went down the microblade route.
My hair is blonde streaked with white and my eyebrows are neither black nor slug like.
They are very well shaped and their colour is perfect for my complexion.
My advice would be to research a good practitioner and you will never look back

I use Collection eyebrown gel in light brown from Superdrug. Inexpensive

I recently found my eyebrows disappearing. I am 77! but look 20 years younger (so I am told) - right, I'm a show-off! Anyway, I got tired of trying to find the right coloured brow pencil. Now, I am looking into hair regrowth products, which might cover eyebrows too. Actually, I am looking into, what I believe to be, a great oil for stimulating skin and hair growth - it is Apricot Oil. I just bought a large bottle, on Amazon for around CAD 20. Please watch for updates.

I had the opposite problem, wiry bushy eyebrows. DD recommended tint and shape. The beautician said my eyebrows had a good natural shape, she plucks out the wiry one and dyes the remaining eyebrows a mid brown to match my hair.

Hetty58 😁

Old age doesn't come alone!
It comes with disappearing hairs where they should be and hairs where you don't want them.

Of course, you may not be old so you'll have more to look forward to.

Callistemon21, there are a few I have to either pluck out or trim these days. Mine seem intent to grow faster, thicker and stronger than ever (as if I didn't have enough to do with my nose hair trimmer).

Callistemon21 Sun 10-Sept-23 21:13:56

They're very popular at the moment Hetty58 😁
But usually thick and straight so the person ends up looking rather cross.

Why is white eyebrow hairs grow twice as long as the dark ones?

Hetty58 Sun 10-Sept-23 21:08:37

Even worse than shiny slug brows:

I once worked with an elderly woman who had no eyebrows. She drew them on - as solid brown lines, (almost) semicircles, far higher than they should be. They looked like comic, drag eyebrows.

She looked ridiculous - and permanently surprised. I tried so hard not to look at her face, yet found it impossible to ever take her (or anything she said) seriously. Those brows were so awful, they still haunt me.

My eyebrows aren't too bad but my eyelashes are disappearing.
Probably gravitated to my chin ☹

I use mascara but there's nothing much left there to make any difference.

My problem is I have to pluck my eyebrows every 2 days to keep stray hairs at bay. I have very dark hairs, except the ones that are grey! These are dyed using a man’s beard and moustache dye applied with a mascara brush. Wish the hair on my head was as thick and easily sorted.

I suffer from Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia and have no eyebrows. After a lot of trial and error I have settled on Maybelline Brow Powder. I get a pallette with four colours on and I use the grey. It is very soft and realistic as well as being reasonably priced.

GrannySomerset Sun 10-Sept-23 20:01:01

I had thick dark eyebrows so over plucked over the years. Now I am over 80 I have them painted on every six weeks or so in order to give my face some definition. So be warned! I am an object lesson in what not to do.

I’ve recently tried a little kit from M&S, for my sparse eyebrows. It gets good reviews and is not expensive, it takes a little practice but I love it.

Coolgran65 Sun 10-Sept-23 19:16:13

How does microblading work if you have thick eyebrows but they are very fair with strong grey wirey hairs. Do your own hairy eyebrows grow and hide the microblading.

kittylester Sun 10-Sept-23 18:02:17

I don't have an underactive thyroid - or much in the way of eyebrows.

NanKate Sun 10-Sept-23 14:57:47

Esmay they are pencils not palette which I agree are tricky to open, especially when I am jamming a small scissor in the palette to open it. 😳

PamelaJ1 Sun 10-Sept-23 12:35:39

If you do decide to have your brows semi permanently tattooed be aware that they look very dark when just done. Bit scary. They will scab and then you go back later to have them ‘finished’ if the practitioner needs to do any evening out.

DaisyAnneReturns Sun 10-Sept-23 12:06:45

Returned!

DaisyAnneReturns Sun 10-Sept-23 12:06:24

Mine were disappearing but return over the years I have taken thyroxine for low thyroid production. It's a common symptom.

Esmay Sun 10-Sept-23 11:59:37

Thanks , NanKate .

I went out yesterday looking odd as my eyebrows looked overdone .

I'll try the Rimmel product ,which you recommend and the Revolution one .

The only problem that I have with Revolution is trying to open their eye shadow palettes !
