Winter Boots

About 4 years ago I spent an increasingly frustrating day trying to buy a pair of black, knee high leather boots. By the end of the day I was nearly in tears as I couldn't find a pair that would zip up over my calf. I felt humiliated, which I know is ridiculous. This year I am going to measure my calf before I go but has anyone else had this problem and have you found any suitable boots. I don't know where to start looking. I need to try them on so I won't be looking online. Thanks for any suggestions.

Try Qvc, I know they have to be posted but you have a 60 day guarantee and you are actually allowed to wear them out and about then if they are not right you can return them. Yes within 60 day even if they have been worn. Honestly they are brilliant that way .

I believe they have the same style this year.

I bought M & S black leather knee high boots last winter. I have a broad foot and chunky calves. These are wide fit, but strangely, are too wide in the leg for me. I wouldn’t be able to wear standard fit though.

I second duo boots. You get what you pay for

I went to a store yesterday which sells boots as well as clothes and there were no calf length boots. They were all ankle boots.
I have long since given up trying to find calf boots that fit.

Try Ecco. Great boots and shoes.

Am looking forward to wearing cosy boots again.

Try Hotter boots, they do different calf widths, or at least they used to - they have been taken over. Another one bites the dust.

Taken over? Really?
My mum buys Hotter boots as she has less than slim ankles, but who does once past 80?
Look them up online or visit a Hotter shop.

Knee high leather boots - a tall order. I do know they make wide calf boots but knee high… not sure. You will find mid-calf styles.

I’m in the US so I don’t know which brands to recommend for UK other than HOTTER (which I have many shoes), then try CLARKS. Go to online websites for your major dept store chains and start cruising. Good luck… You may just find what you’re looking for.

I never go shopping without my small retractable 6 ft measuring tape. I’m always measuring for length, inseams, organizers, lamps, flower pots, sauce pan lids, pictures - it could be anything! So valuable to have!

It’s always in my purse.

La Redoute have some lovely ones with an expandable panel in the calf.

I have incredibly fat calves and extremely wide feet - eee fitting.
I hate trying to buy boots. I can just about wear a very wide fitted ankle boot but never ever knee length boots unless made of very stretchy material, usually pointed stiletto style from days of yore and yesteryear and pray the zip doesn't break open.
I'm not larger elsewhere, just blame my ancestors.

Pavers might be worth checking out. They have a few outlets and are online.

Good idea with choosing lace ups now. I had a problem with a Hotter Mystery boot and the zip. Luckily we still had a local Hotter shop and they reluctantly exchanged the boots which were hardly worn as only a couple of weeks old. I had hoped they would get them "mended". But they didn't mend problems. I don't feel they would replace them now....probably a case of tough luck.
So am wary of zipped boots. Also have a zip with a bit of attitude on a Seasalt mac. Ps I am careful.

Not sure sorry, I go for ankle boots, preferably that slip on for ease.

grandtanteJE65 Wed 04-Oct-23 12:10:08

I don't have this problem, but I changed to boots that lace up years ago, as zips tended either to break long before the boot was worn out, or ladder may stockings.

You are going to severely limit your options by not shopping online. You can always ask the company for measurements beforehand, if not specified already in the online description of goods, and return goods if not suitable.

I have some lovely slouchy-style Hotter Mystery boots in a variety of colours including black. They are very comfortable and hardwearing and come in standard, wide and extra wide fitting.

Mystery appears to have been replaced by a style called Derrymore, very similar just with a side tab decoration. £139.00.

Duoboots do eight different calf widths, and are available online.

I wondered why that didn't show up, but it was on a Covid thread. My posting is all over the place just now - autocorrect is insane, posts get whole sentences edited out, and this is not the first one to appear on the wrong thread. Is it just me?

Anyway, the webs is on the link - fill your boots wink

Try Seasalt.

Have you checked John Lewis? They should have some?
