I wonder if anyone has any recommendations for a decent pair of slippers that are not too "grannyish"! I would like some that are robust because I do pop outside in them and have been known to do a bit of gardening in them and I want them to stay on well i.e. not mules because I tend to trip in them. Hopefully some that do not get too big over time either.

My Deep Sea Black NAMI Slide sandals have proven themselves surprisingly robust for quick trips outside and gardening tasks alike, staying securely on my feet without being "grannyish," without stretching out over time, and without becoming loose over time. Consider giving these a try if you want something practical yet non-frumpy!

I like Cosy fit slipper/ sandals . Washable, cotton ,2 Velcro fasteners and comfy and supportive for my feet . I think mules in particular are hazardous for older people.

But some kids shoes are fabulously cute these days Greta. I’d rather wear a fluffy eared daft character slipper than a fuddy duddy sweaty woolly tartan creation.

Traditional slippers are not for me.I just find them depressing somehow. Indoors I wear good plimsolls. The ones I have now are Rocket Dog. They fit my feet very well and are sturdy but light.
One issue I have with footwear is finding a size 3. If you're considering downsizing to size 3 - don't! I'm often advised "have you tried the children's department?"

My podiatrist called crocs the shoes of the devil. I threw all mine out when I got home

Good luck.
I hope you can sort it out (for the cat, mostly) smile

I've never seen a cat wearing slippers - I bet there's a gap in the market there for an enterprising type grin.

I have weak ankles, so can't wear even flat mules, as I slip out of them.

I buy mine from Snow Paw. I do buy the backless ones but they have thick soles and stay on my feet well.

Thanks everyone, all suggestions taken on board, loads that I hadn't thought of.

MissAdventure Sun 25-Feb-24 20:15:22

I go in and out like s fiddlers elbow when I'm able.
I start with all good intentions but they soon dissipate.

We have really really good doormats and crocs are so easy to wash and dry.
I find closed in slippers extremely sweaty, but love a slipper sock for lounging in- the ones with little rubber bits on the soles.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 25-Feb-24 19:57:16

Me too.

Why would you wear your slippers in the garden.
Think of the dirt you are treading in.

There are outdoor and indoor shoes and slippers for me.

BlueBelle Sun 25-Feb-24 18:51:03

I have crocs with a fur lining love them because they don’t even look like slippers but are warm and comfortable

maddyone Sun 25-Feb-24 18:31:11

I absolutely love, love, love my slippers. I wear sheepskin mules so can’t really advise the OP.

Don’t cringe when you read this - but have you considered Crocs? If you don’t know what they are go to their website:

www.crocs.com/footwear

OR - you can go to Amazon to check them out. Of course, you would get ALL styles and colors by going to website and browse.

People wear them in the hospital (soft, lightweight and quiet), wear them in the house, clean out the garage or work in the garden. Rinse them with water to clean. My crocs lasted at least 7-8 years. Nearly indestructible. All styles too - mine were like ballet flat style, with an arch!! Yes.

sunbar Sun 25-Feb-24 17:54:29

Check Vionic. Their slippers are more like house shoes, lots of arch support too

I like them Dempie55 - and reasonably priced

These are mine: Everfoam men’s moccasins £17 from Amazon!

I like those!
I like that price, too!

I am into my 3rd year of wearing a pair of Skechers slippers which have very good soles which I received as a gift from DD for Christmas 2021. Slightly bored with them but they refuse to wear out. More expensive than other slippers but they have certainly lasted. I used to get M&S moccasin slippers until the quality dropped and I got through 2 pairs in one year.

Curtaintwitcher Sun 25-Feb-24 16:45:54

I bought slippers from Wynsors and Shoezone. Both are perfectly comfortable and robust but much cheaper than the known brands. Sheepskin slippers have good soles, if you want to splash out.
The other option is to keep a pair of wellies by the back door and put those on when you go out to the bin.

Pavers slippers are very good. Most have proper outdoor-type soles, so are perfect for nipping out to feed the birds etc. I’ve even hand-washed different pairs over the years. They’re reasonably priced and last for years.
