Mousse for hair

At 75, my hair seems to have lost its body and no longer holds a style. I'm healthy and have strong shiny hair so it's not a health issue, it's just flat especially on top (shortish hairstyle) . I need a good mousse that isn't sticky and I can brush through. Any recommendations please? I have been using Aveda but now it's too pricey for me... I'm interested in other brands people have found to be good.

Thanks in anticipation!

I use Silvikrin mousse. I have short fine hair , after washing in shower I comb through , apply the mouse and scrunch my hair into place. I leave it to dry naturally before then comb through.

Thank you 😊

I like the Elnett mousse, I find it’s really good for root lift, and doesn’t leave a stiff residue on your hair - and most importantly, it doesn’t make my head itch, which lots of hair products do.

My favourite, for my ludicrously fine hair, is Percy & Reed. It’s not as expensive as Aveda, but still on the pricey side. Though a little goes a long way.

One of my friends has very fine gently waving hair , but it was flat on top .
One day , I admired her new hair style and she told me her secret she'd bought a hair topper .
I thought that it was an excellent investment and worth buying .

I was thinking of trying White Hot products - has anyone used them?

Hi Elless, I did try them but went back to the Aveena shampoo with Apple Cider vinegar because we live in a hard water area and that's the only shampoo that gives my white hair a shine! I found their texturising cream to be very sticky, didn't like it.

Thank you to all who responded.

I like Shockwaves keratin mousse. I can’t remember the price, but it was under £5 the last time I bought it. It has some protein in which helps with lack of volume. I use it most wash days.

Zhoosh foam is good and smells lovely. Can be used on wet or dry hair. It's about £16

L’Oreal Elvive. I have used this one for years… difficult to buy on the high street now but still available online. Different varieties for different hold levels.

Can lasts ages and easily brushes out, no ‘concrete’ feel. I will be devasted if they stop supplying it.

Shockwaves Volume Mousse by Wella. It's really good and lasts a long time.

L'oreal Elvive, non stop volume, from Tesco, the purple can, think it's about £5...it's quite often out of stock, so I buy it when I see it .

I use Percy and Reed too. It’s a bit pricey but worth it.

I've very fine hair - short style. I've used John Frieda mousse for years and have now added Goldwell Ultra Volume spray just to the top which was recommended by my hairdresser. I pop a couple of heated roller on top to boost too.

I never use over the counter products on my hair.

I’ve used Joico coloniser Products for years. They are a wee bit pricey but worth it.

I’m currently using Colour WOW products as my hair is very dry at the moment as I’m trying to grow it a wee bit (to hide hearing aids). Very pricey but it seems to be working.

Boots own brand hair mousse. I've used it for years and it's excellent - and it's £1.60 a bottle..!! It leaves my (very thick) hair really shiny and holds well.

I use Insette volumising mousse. It works well for me.

Women’s hair does change in texture, hair loss, strength, shine, certainly color - it could be all those things - as we get older.

What also changes is your natural PH levels due to hormonal change. It affects hair. So I find that certain products now sit on my hair like glue or concrete… tackiness that weighs down your hair, even though I follow directions. Especially with mousse which coats your hair strand till next wash.

It’s a process of trial and error. You might have to spend a few dollars to find the right formula mousse. What you want is a little volume and ✨ shine! ✨
