Hi, I'm looking to update my winter wardrobe but I don't know where to start! In the winter months I usually opt for dresses, tights and boots but my old faithfuls have seen better days sad I'm 64 and I feel like the high street only caters to young ladies or ladies in later life, I want to feel great in what I wear. If anyone could share any recommendations for where to buy comfortable and casual but stylish dresses, it would be much appreciated

White Stuff, fat face and M&S
I’m 54 - lovely dresses in all these shops

Have a look at White Stuff ( online and shops as well). Don't ask me why it's called White stuff - there's very little clothing that is white, but colourful clothing in all sizes and stylish clothing for most ages, I think . Not that I'm anywhere near stylish!

3 small boutiques you may like to look at…I am 67 and wear a few of these….
Chichappens
Mistral
Unfolded
Enjoy your new purchases
I do not work for any of these ….

Have a look on Vinted. Lots of lovely clothes, some new with labels and you are helping the planet too!

great to read this. I have spent the whole summer looking for dresses that do not skim the floor. Even M&S petite sizes do.

Sahara. Poetry. Wrap. All three are online. A bit pricey but the quality is excellent.

This is a very useful forum. I've been stuck on what to wear apart from jeans. Thanks for the ideas.

Just had a quick browse on Crew website, very similar to Joules who have some fabulous clothes this season.

I recently bought a few dresses from Finery online. Next online are very good as they sell many different makes and you can pick them up and take them back in store.

This is a new one for me! I've had a look and I love them, and not a bad price too, thanks so much dragonfly46! grin

If you want to buy leather jackets, visit NYC Jackets. What do you prefer to wear in winter over dresses?

5’2” busty lady I wear dresses from Boden, Mint Velvet, The White Company, Hobbs & Hush.

Some of my friends wear a lot of Sosander (sp)

Hush are generous size wise and I go down a size.

Good luck, wear whatever suits you and you are comfortable with 🙋‍♀️

I have a few finery dresses. As I am rather full on the bust, I have to go up a size.

I've had some nice dresses for winter from Roman Originals. They do have some actual high street shops but I've tended to shop online as delivery is free and you can exchange for a different size for free andt is only £3 to send it back of you decide you don't want it. They also do some nice tunics and the clothes are of good quality.

Next Online, they have thousands of dresses.

I really miss Oasis on the high street. The online version is just not as good.

Crew Clothing is my current favourite.

I haven’t shopped in monsoon for a fair few years, this is my next stop! Thankyou

I love FatFace for dresses. There is one on our high street, but mobility impairment makes it impossible for me to get there right now so I buy online. At the other end of the spectrum I also like New Look. They also do online orders.

I’ll try fatface, I don’t think there’s a physical store near me but I can order online smile

Ohh ladies you are so lucky to be able to wear dresses, I'm 5ft tall but a bit busomy & hippy. If I wear a dress It actually wears me! I sorry I'm no help at all.

I’m open to wearing other than dresses, what do you prefer to wear in winter over dresses? smile

Marydoll Tue 10-Sept-24 20:56:23

I am sixty nine I wear lots of White Stuff, Fat Face and Monsoon dresses and tunics. I also buy a fair bit from TU.

P.S, I am also 5ft and busomy, it hasn't prevented me wearing dresses. It's a matter of getting the proportions correct.

Why not just go and walk round your local M&S and see what they offer, or browse different sites online.

Not knowing someone's precise taste in clothes, it is very difficult, to know what to recommend. What you consider young ladies clothes, I, at 81, may be wearing, considering them just what i wanted,

Personally, like others, I think age is irrelevant when shopping for clothes. My most recent buy was a sundress bought in a supermarket in France and a dress from Culture Vulture.

Absolutely, I agree! I used to be a regular shopper in shops like oasis and warehouse but it’s places like this I now think market to a younger audience overall! Ive been really impressed with supermarket clothing in recent years too

littlenananj Tue 10-Sept-24 20:51:15

I haven’t heard of this, I’m off shopping ! Thankyou
