If they stopped making lipstick....

How long would your supply last? Just a silly post for fun.

I recently bought a new lipstick in a brick red for fall, and as I put it in my drawer I felt a bit guilty at the amount I have. I counted 16 lipstick or tinted balm ranging from corals to berry colours, tending to replace my favourite Clinique Almost Lipstick twice a year, but many of the others are almost untouched.

So if I actually used all my lipsticks I could last 8 -10 years.

Personally I think its the matt lipsticks that stay on the longest time..

I wear lipstick daily but none stay on for very long. I use Clinique, Dior or Clarins but I must just lick my lips too often ….

Hello! I had that problem too but I now use a product called Lipcote. It is applied after you have blotted your lips (needs dry lips to stay on). Lipstick will then last for a much longer time, in my case about 4-5 hours, sometimes more.
By the way, I have no connection with the company at all, but have used it for many years. It’s easy to find on the net but shop around as prices vary greatly.

Forgot to say….. the lipstick that always had the greatest staying power for me before finding Lipcote was Rimmel! Surprising, as I would assume expensive makes like the ones you use would stay longer!

All these lippies, and I can't find "the one".

It was a Constance Carroll frosted pink, and I loved it!!

I haven't touched any of my make up for at least ten years. I think I ought to chuck it out for hygiene reasons. The lipstick is the worst for germs, you're not supposed to keep it for more than 2 or 3 years.

As for applying it, I learnt the following from a beautician friend:

Apply foundation over the edge of the lips. Mark out outline in lip pencil. Do not go outside lips with this.

Apply one coat with lip brush. Pinch lips together, then press a tissue between lips. Repeat.

Finish with top coat.

I think that was how it went. Quite a palaver but it stays fixed for most of the day.

You could have years and years worth of lipsticks but they do not keep. I had four Estee Lauder lipsticks in a cupboard for a year and when I tried to apply them they had dried out and would not spread. I thought I could stockpile my favourite colour but it was an expensive mistake.

crazyH I’m with you on the lippy front 💋 Just moisturiser and a little mascara…….but always my Clarins Soft Berry. Don’t feel like me without it. I find using a lip brush to essential to get at the lipstick right in the tube helpful too!

I have never brought a lipstick and have never worn makeup of any kind.

Puzzlelove - just read your comment and my late father used to say "Powder and paint make a woman what she ain't!"

The same line really.

That's why I like to wear it sometimes 😊

It's better than people asking anxiously if I'm ok because I look so washed out!

Rusume Thu 24-Oct-24 22:22:57

I always wear lipstick if going out and ive got so many I lost count after ten - they'll last forever! I always used to tease my late mum over the fact that every single one of hers was more or less the same colour - coral - no matter what make. Well guess what - so are mine - a nude browney pink. I guess we're all drawn to the same colour every time!

mumofmadboys Thu 24-Oct-24 21:37:05

I have never owned a lipstick. Never liked the look of it.

I'd last for ever. Don't use the stuff and never did since the almost white craze of - what - early 60s?

The almost white craze of the 60s (Dusty Springfield et al) suited me fine. They just went a nice shade of pink on me!! Think I may still have some somewhere. All tinted shades seem to turn bright red on me, and the lilac ones make me look as if I am about to die of heart failure! However, I have quite a collection of lipsticks - some unused, so those will probably go to a shelter.

I loved white lipstick too, back in the day, but the red stuff makes me look as if I’ve been tarted up in the undertakers. 😱

I don't have many proper lipsticks as they tend to start to smell before I finish them.
I do have several years worth of lipsense from when I was a distributor.

Scribbles Thu 24-Oct-24 20:29:28

I can't bear the feel of lipstick on my skin so haven't worn it since my teens and wouldn't miss it at all. Nail varnish though .... I've lost count but my collection will surely see me out! (I don't wear it all the time but can't resist a "new" colour).

Moth62 Thu 24-Oct-24 20:27:54

I cleared all my make up bags out last year. I had a pale pink lipstick (Boots 17 brand) that I bought as a teenager!! I was getting a lot of eye infections, so I threw out all my old eyeshadows and mascaras (LOADS of them, all opened and partly used so I couldn’t even donate them to a charity unfortunately). I love lipstick and if I use a brush to outline my now thinner lips slightly outside the lip line, then brush lippy on the inside, blot on a tissue, apply it once more and use Lipcote on top, I’ve found it lasts all evening.

silverlining48 Thu 24-Oct-24 18:12:29

I only have one lipstick already over half used. Luckily I don’t put it on often, but might treat myself to another at some point.

sunglow12 Thu 24-Oct-24 18:02:12

Can’t wear lipstick unfortunately as makes my lips crack I think it’s something in them so use Vaseline ( the best ) and found 2 old Kiels tinted moisturisers-in the draw so gave one to my lovely daughter in law . Possible my cache may last about 3 years if I didn’t replace tho .

grandtanteJE65 Thu 24-Oct-24 17:48:47

I probably have three or four lipsticks kicking around my dressing table, but by and large I have stopped wearing it, or any other make-up.

So if the entire cosmetic industry went on strike tomorrow, it would not bother me.

Sarahr Thu 24-Oct-24 17:39:42

I have one lipstick at a time. Too expensive to have any more hanging around unused.

Gosh wouldn't be without lipstick at all. Wear all the time and put my make up on every day, whether going out or not. You never know who will be at the door!

Cateq Thu 24-Oct-24 16:37:01

My DM would be horrified if she could see me, I rarely wear makeup and usually put my hair up to save it needed attention. Although I do wear perfume everyday, it only ever Chanel usually No5 or if we’re going out one of my exclusive range I love Chanel beige or 1957. My rationale it’s the only range that doesn’t irritate my eczema.

Grannytwoshoes Thu 24-Oct-24 16:07:16

Never without my lipstick ! But my latest find is a lip balm called LIPSYNC. Fabulous colours from Nude to Dark Berry…wonderful consistency with protection from cold sores. My Christmas shopping is done ..,,the beautiful packaging is a winner

Never wear any makeup apart from at the very occasional wedding. My late mother told me ‘if God had wanted me to wear makeup I would have been born with it on’. Must have saved 100’s of £ over the years.
