Cutting your own hair.

I think you are all wonderful ladies! I wish I could do the same but Lockdown haircut attempts were proof I was rubbish 😱 My 41 year old son has always cut his own to save money and he does a fabulous job, even bleaches his hair properly too. Obviously nothing from my genes, he has his father’s patience 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have cut my own hair regularly for at least 15 years. I did have one hairdresser trim just before my 70th birthday celebration 3 years ago, and having paid out around £15 for less than 5 mins work, continued to feel that it was a waste of money.

My hair is straight and shoulder length, and now quite thin, so it's not a difficult job, and I use proper hair cutting scissors. I find the fringe the most difficult part and sometimes need a couple of goes at it.

I never liked going to the hairdresser's much anyway, and only ever had a trim. Why pay for a wash and blow dry when I can wash and dry my own hair, thanks. I don't colour my hair now either, and have been lucky to hold on to quite a bit of natural light brown colour in it still despite being 72, though it's greying more now, but in good condition. I take collagen supplements which seem to have helped its condition.

I have short hair and always have it cut by a hairdresser, who can layer it and trim it in a way i could never manage.

During lockdown we got some proper scissors and I did trim DH's hair, but it was never satisfactory and he was glad to return to his barber.

I have long hair and a fringe. I go to the hairdressers every 6 months and I cut my own fringe in between visits. I also cut my DH 's hair regularly and have done all our married life.

I think that thinning scissors and a pair of sharp scissors are invaluable for me in between visits from my mobile hairdresser. She never comments..

I often trim mine, have done forever. I have short, fine hair cut in varying length layers. Last time I was at the hairdresser (always a dry cut as I can’t use back washes) she cut the back and left the front for me to do as and when needed. Mr C prefers me to trim his hair, I use clippers and scissors, so far no noticeable bald patches but who knows in the future .

During lockdown, my husband helped me out with a hair cut. I bought hairdressers scissors from Amazon and he has done a good job about 4 times but we both feel that it’s time for a professional cut.

In lockdown I cut DH's hair. No bother with a razor. This gave me confidence to trim my shoulder length hair.
After some bad experiences with hairdressers I've continued to cut my own hair. I do as suggested earlier, tie hair in 1 or 2 sections with bands and snip away! My hair has a natural wave which covers any mistakes!
I actually feel more like 'myself' rather
than have the styles which were forced
on me, as in variations of short Bobs.

I did much the same thing, Marydoll. I used the wrong blade and had to do DH's hair the same all over - I'd cut a swathe up the back! He had very short hair until it grew out.

He regularly cuts my long hair for me but fortunately hasn't been tempted to retaliate.

I currently look a bit witchy!
I hate going to the hairdressers & the mobile one's round here can seemingly only do one type of cut- thing! (BOB)
My husband often lops a bit off
but as we're not speaking at the mo,
I don't quite trust him with sharp scissors near my neck. 🥴

Since lockdown I do DH’s hair. When I had long hair he uses to cut a few inches off mine.

I do it all the time ... have done for years. I create two bunches, one under each ear and pull the bands down so that both leave below them the amount I want to cut off .... then I cut it off. Job done!

During lockdown, when I had to shield for two years, I was forced to cut my very thick hair, because I had no other choice.
To make a good job of it, I bought a pair of both cutting and thinning scissors. It actually wasn't too bad. However, I was delighted to get it done professionally, once I was released from incarceration.

I also did DH's and he thinks I made such a good job, that he now refuses to go to the barber's.
Please don't tell him, he has bald patch at the back, from when I accidently used the wrong blade the other day. I couldn't stop looking at it at church last night. Thankfully, he is blissfully unaware. 🤣
