Low cut dresses - what to wear underneath?

I've got two lovely summer dresses to wear this year, but the necklines are quite low - too low for me, actually. I know you can buy lace inserts, but I'm not a lacy person. I've looked at vests, but they need to have a square top and would they be too warm to wear in the summer? What about crop tops?Wondered whether others have had the same problem. Any suggestions?

I have a skilled lady who puts inserts in for me. Much more comfy than a garment underneath.

Why not add a classic collared shirt , unbuttoned, to put over the dress

Is it the sort of dress you can sort with a few stitches to close it together?

I’ve done all the suggestions above as dresses these days seem far too low for my age - I’d have flaunted ‘em when I was young and single of course!

The type of vest tops with thin straps worked well for me with similar dresses. Widely available at this time of year in lots of colours.
