I have some lovely clothes but am a stone overweight. Never feel as if I look good in anything.Looking at first ladies at the Popes funeral yesterday, all very elegant and all extremely thin and realised that is why they always look good, they are clothes horses and must have a will of iron.

It is depressing .
For many years I was naturally slim .
At times I was told that I was too thin .
Then my thyroid failed and I injured my neck , back and knees .
I've wistfully kept some of my size eight clothes.
I'd be happy to be a size 14 ,but I'm a 20 .
I often see a dress which I'd love and the biggest size is an 18 .
People aren't always that sympathetic, understanding nor kind.
I occasionally observe food combining and it does work .
Have a look at the Hay diet .
When planning a meal I try to think of tempting vegetables or salad and fruit for a dessert.
It does help .
A stone overweight isn't a disaster .
And the ladies attending the funeral do look like clothes horses -they are there to show respect not to display themselves !

I was thin all my life then I went through the change and ended up like a dumpling!

Brigitte Macron is well dressed but very thin and looks as if she's maybe had too much plastic surgery. She is over 70 so could be medically advised to put on weight.
I am a similar age and was advised last year when at hospital that it would be better to have a bit more weight. My BMI was 20.

I bet Catherine has no desire to be a stone or so heavier.

One of the reasons she looks so good in her clothes is because she is tall and slim.

Yes, I bet she eats a carefully controlled diet, but a very healthy one, and probably has a personal trainer.

Let’s face it, part of her role is to look great.

And she does.

I'm going on a short seaside holiday in six weeks time. Tried my summer dresses on and they were a bit tight. I can't afford to buy new ones, so will definitely have to cut down on my food intake.

And Brigitte Macron never looks very happy.

Despite her slimness, her clothes, her hair, she still looks old beside her husband.

Yes you can be too thin... or am I just envious grin
It's not always a good look, especially amongst older people.

Well, she is old beside her husband. No harm there.

She is slim and does wear clothes beautifully.

Your face may well benefit from a little extra weight. Mature ladies who are very thin can look gaunt.
My ( very elegant) MIL said " after sixty, you choose your bum or your face".

Very true. Just been reading an article by Dame Jenni Murray who has lost 3.5 stones on weight loss jabs. She is pleased with that but says “oh dear, the face”. Sharon Osborne is the same.

If a person is naturally very thin, so be it but those like Victoria Beckham who exist on starvation rations to look like that must be putting themselves at risk health wise.

Anyway fat people are harder to kidnap. Eat cake. cupcake

Maggiemaybe Sun 27-Apr-25 12:39:46

I’ve just read Jenni Murray’s article and don’t really understand her concerns. I think she looks years younger with her slimmed down face. Though of course the only view that really matters is her own.

Thin doesn't mean healthy, all sorts of people are thin and deficient in vitamins and iron as well as having low muscle tone. Always press for health rather than a scale number, far more important to feel good than fit an ideal of what looks good dictated by some sort of soon obselete trend of nonsense.

Due to poorly managed medication, my bestie has lost 1.5 stone over the last few months and she looks so ill and frail. Her lovely face is gaunt now. Even her feet have got smaller and her shoes no longer fit. Her poor legs are just sticks and I wonder how they're keeping her upright. You can, without doubt, be too thin.

Bukkie Sun 27-Apr-25 18:15:24

Carole Middleton is slim and looks great, Catherine and Pippa are painfully underweight, that's a big difference. Pippa in particular looks years older than she is and Catherine although looks great would look even better at her natural weight. She certainly is underweight and has been since her engagement.

The last time I was pretty poorly I lost weight, and remember looking into the mirror one morning and was shocked to be looking at my mother not long before she died.

Calendargirl Sun 27-Apr-25 18:59:33

How do any of us know what is Catherine’s ‘natural’ weight?

pinkprincess Sun 27-Apr-25 19:07:56

Catherine, the Princess of Wales is too thin. She only looked healthy when she was pregnant. I am always baffled why others aren't more concerned especially after the issues surrounding Diana and eating disorders. I suspect Catherine has a very controlled diet and that isn't a good example to set to her young daughter. I know she is sporty but she would look far healthier a stone or more heavier.

I agree with you.It is painful sometimes seeing her in photos. We all want to look elegant, but there is a price to pay if you overdo the extreme dieting like I think she does.It eventually shows in your hair and bones.

Calendargirl Sun 27-Apr-25 19:16:52

I don’t know about her bones, but Catherine’s hair always looks marvellous- thick, glossy, healthy looking.

I know she will have access to the best hairdressers, but her diet must play a part.

I disagree with some of the comments on this thread. I gained about 8 pounds during covid and felt uncomfortable. I used the NHS calorie counting app to keep a record and cut down my portions and naughty snacks. I also tried to walk more. It worked for me. I felt better and slimmer and more attractive.

I know how you feel Esmay I’m short and round and no matter how hard I try to look nice and stylish I feel like a bag of dirty washing most of the time. I envy bigger people who have the confidence to wear what they want , and show off their lumps and bumps. I’m forever trying to cover them up, but wearing baggy clothes just makes me feel frumpy. My life is quite stressful at the moment and I’m aware that I use food for comfort- but it’s hard. If I could afford it I would buy the weight loss jabs. Hey ho. Self pity party over!

Ahh me too- we are never happy in our own skin, are we?

Pink princess don’t forget she’s had cancer, or preventative chemotherapy

Macadia Sun 27-Apr-25 19:54:53

This post is very sad to me. Everyone talking about how some are too thin and some need to be thinner, some like to be chubby. Why not just be who you are? Eat healthy, not less or more. Be yourself and don't try to become someone else. Why would you do that? Some people carry less fat. Some people carry more fat. There is no perfect body, perfect face, perfect figure. Anyone who believes this has been brainwashed by media and pressures by society that should have been outdated years ago. Look are not everything! Just be a kinder person. That is all that matters. It matters to teach this to your children and grandchildren, too. Kindness has nothing to do with photographs but everything to do with image.

Well Cathrines beautiful hair has put the lie to that bullshit.

Until mid 50s I was always very slim. Then, almost overnight, I seemed to turn into my DM. I was always regarded as being like my DDad tall and slimbut here I am almost a carbon copy of my DM. Shrinking in height (not as short of my DM yet) and a much rounded figure. Genes definitely play a part in your body shape and whether your slim or round.
