White Grey Hair ….Help!

My fringe is white but the rest of my hair is still quite brown with a bit of salt and pepper. I use Plantur Anti Grey (Black bottle) every three washes and it gives it a lovely blonde blended look.

Push the boat out and get it done once by a professional; tell them what you want and discuss it. If you are please with the result, then get their advice on what to use and how to maintain it.

Do your patch test.

Use Stay blonde products - when I was mousy, they did lift the shine.

Superdrug do a wash in temp product - never used, but perhaps worth a try?

Hi - for your sake Op trying to help - don’t usually put photos of me on at all .i have longish fading grey/ light brown hair and brighten it up every 2-3 months with Daniel Field water colour with no hydrogen or ammonia in . It is powder added to a plastic bottle and I use Ash Blonde ( palest blonde 9.1) and just a dash of palest golden blonde to it and shake with quite warm water -shake till becomes a mousse . Massage into hair at scalp level ( all of hair if first time ) and put the plastic cap on provided . Wait for about an hour and have a shower- massage all of hair , wash hair with gentle shampoo and put conditioner on . It only dyes white hair , does not lighten but gives a few blonde streaks . Even my hair dresser who I go to for an annual trim likes it and says carry on with what you doing . No roots showing . This may be useless info but felt it could be useful may be . Best of luck . I like a simple life but a bit of brightening never did any harm as chemicals not harsh . It’s £9.50 per packet and I buy 5 at once as cheaper and no postage I think . Worth researching or I think you can contact them by phone for advice and they helpful . I can’t use permanent dyes as get psoriasis . Good Luck 🍀

Let your natural hair be! I’m silvery grey and it looks stunning (other people’s opinion.) If you have a good, unfrumpy style (mine’s in a French bob,) it’s not ageing at all.

I had long beautiful almost black hair and it started turning grey in my fifties. For 15 years I coloured it mourning the loss of colour. 2 years ago I went cold turkey on the dye and now I have silver grey. It’s fabulous! I love it! No more sitting waiting for the colour to take while the chemicals bake my brain!

Properly white hair doesn’t take dye - who ever invents a dye that works will get very rich! But there are some good suggestions here worth trying.
I’m lucky - top layers white (I brighten them with toning ie purple shampoo); still some colour underneath and I get lots of compliments.
I wonder if a darker shade underneath will create more interest - and it doesn’t show so quickly as it grows out?

You can get non permanent dyes that will wash out, or if you prefer you can dye your dark brown hair blonde (like I did) & it will turn whitish, then after a few weeks outdoors it will go a nicer colour of yellowish blond as mine did.

I'm not fully grey yet and have been colouring my hair for years, but the root touch up is getting me down so I'm going to go grey but tint it blond.
I'm easing the transition by having thin white highlights put in every few weeks and using a lighter colour than usual on the roots, which fades out quickly. However whatever colour you use will either fade out quickly if it is very mild, or may bring out red undertones if it is a stronger colourant.
I'm planning to use a tint once I'm more grey, and hoping that it will be strong enough to colour the grey blond without bringing out the red tones in the remaining non-grey hair.

Solution for the "white balloon". I love my white hair but sometimes just for the fun element I colour a few bits and pieces bright pink (with my fingertips) wash in/wash out - and get lots of compliments, even from my son who's not one for complimenting me on anything I do or say usually!

Be bold! Buy some washout dyes. My grey hair is often pale blue, which I really like. Even better, it will actually wash out after a few washes. Or you could also try pink or purple. Why not?

I have Alopecia Universalis worn a man made wig since 1980. Now got a human hair wig so can go to hairdresser again. I have missed that.

Blonde hair could make you look more pale if it’s too warm toned for your skin colour. I think you either need to get your hair coloured professionally or embrace your natural colour. I’ve found that wearing brightly coloured clothes and lipstick helps a lot.

My hair has been white since I retired and gave up dyeing it. The only thing I do to it is occasionally to use one of those purple toner type shampoo/conditioner combos, it just gives a slightly difference tiny to the white.

Superdrug & Boots often do a two for a tenner offer. Clairol works on my white hair but maybe some people's hair is resistant. Salons use tube tints with peroxide usually which is similar to the box dye systems. I've gone to professional salons & the tint fades just as quickly as the bargain box job and I've paid loads to be disappointed.

I know it's very expensive to have your hair coloured at a salon but do you have a college locally, that trains hairdressers? They are often looking for models and you could get your hair done (they are all supervised!) for a fraction of the cost of a 'real' salon. Might be worth looking into? Just a thought.

I think you will need to see a professional to achieve the hair colour you need. White hair is difficult to colour at home. The last time I tried I ended up with nothing - wasted money.

I have been using Nice and Easy for years. I use no. 10, I think it’s called extra light blonde. I’m not sure what sort of a grey I am as I’m determined to stay blonde! Probably gun metal so it might take differently. It’s a pale light (probably too light!) blonde - I’ve tried going a shade darker but I always go back to brassy blonde. As Dolly says, it takes a lot of money to look this cheap (actually it doesn’t, Amazon subscription every 6 weeks ) 😂

I colour my friends white hair with this, test it out first and try 9g first. Or Herbatint is good. There might be golden coloured semi permanent or temporary colours out there but I've never looked.

Ex hairdresser here. Clairol Nice and Easy will cover grey but it will fade at the roots fairly quickly. If you want it a Gold blonde then the G ranges are the way to go. I find 9G looks nice but fades out soon. 8G looks brassy gold at first but fades fairly quickly to a very golden blonde but doesn't fade as quickly as 9G. I've mixed the two before but Clairol won't advise that. Do your skin test first!
