Sun has turned my silver hair yellow

I am happy with my normally silver/white hair but the sun has yellowed it. I don't always like to wear a hat as it flattens my hair. Can anyone recommend :
a. A uv protection product

b. Something to tone down the yellow without it looking like
an old fashioned blue rinse.

I use John Frieda Shimmering Silver shampoo and Conditioner. It look very purple in the tube but it doesn’t on your hair.

I originally only used the conditioner but my hairdresser said there is something in the shampoo which makes the conditioner work better

He was right it really has made my hair a much nicer colour.

Agree.. Shampoo with purple toner in it. Available in Boots, SuperDrug etc. I use it frequently as a refresher for getting rid of the yellow tone.

I wasn’t aware until last week that you can buy sun protection for your hair. I overheard two young women discussing their hair. One, who was a very pale blonde, said she got a burnt scalp every year! shock The other said that she ought to use a sun protector on her hair and head and I was amazed that such a thing exists.

I don’t have much grey hair but it’s become very dry so I think I’m going to try a sun protector on it. This article from Boots (other chemists are available!) has a list of products at the bottom. HTH.

No matter what colours were on my hair it always went blonde in the summer.

I don't colour it now but swear by the purple shampoo, no need for expensive ones either.

Another vote for the special purple shampoo and conditioner. It looks pretty scary in colour but it works for me.

Hi there, when the sun gives me yellow streaks in my hair I use a purple shampoo. Leave it in for 5=10 minutes then rinse. Works for me when I have extra Flintshire hair.

One foolproof way of protecting your hair from the sun is - to my mind, obviously - is to wear a hat.

Bondi Sands do a SPF 50 spray for scalp

My hairdresser advised "get some purple shampoo " damn! should have done so before the heatwave, it's on my list, my silvery/ash highlights have gone slightly yellow.

I know if your hair turns green you should use tomato ketchup on your hair so maybe try that or the opposite on the colour chart

Any brand of purple shampoo and conditioner will stop hair yellowing and restore hair which has yellowed.

Thank you all for your suggestions, I will try the purple shampoo and just hope it doesn't look too out of date.

A hat is highly recommended.

My sister has developed a melanoma right on top of her scalp. She has (unlike me) very thick hair. She found it last year and is still having treatment.

So everyone - hats - factor 50 and sunglasses. Not for fashion, but for health.
