Too old for Tee shirts?

My partner announced the other day he thought he was maybe " too old for tee shirts". Now upgraded to a tee with linen shirt over the top.

It got me thinking....perhaps I too am not best suited to them? Lots of lumps and bumps, can never quite find up lift and comfort in a bra. A shirt or blouse is maybe the way to go?

Lafergar, I wish! Those were the days!

I cannot do that, Dogsmother , as the Tesco man could send for the police if I answered the door naked dressed in clingy.

It might float his boat!

Vest tops might be unforgiving with bingo wings, a good quality t-shirt is ok, especially paired with a nice, lightweight cardigan or blazer.

TBH I don’t like anything sleeveless with ‘old’ arms. Yes, you can wear whatever you like, but…

Sorry Lafergar I meant to quote your opening post.

What?

You thought he was right?

You are too old?

I think you may be right.
I wear a tee around the house but not for going out, same for DP.
Comfy yes, but not the best look once older.

I wear exactly what I want to wear.

Of course! This was intended to be light hearted, a break fro the horrors which surround us.

I wear what I want, right now, it's a nightie.

I recently rediscovered The Dress, having not worn one for 30 odd years.

Just a different thing for a different time in my life.

Nothing wrong in wearing a tee shirt. Make sure it’s the right size! 🤦‍♀️ A lot of people wear clothes that are at least 2 sizes too small for them - not a good look!

dogsmother Thu 10-Jul-25 10:10:55

What’s with these numbers again! Wear whatever you are comfortable in or if you like makes you look good to you and you alone!

At 84, I hope I can't be considered too old for tee-shirts. I have a drawer full of them, in many different colours. Most of them are good to last until I'm at least 87.

I love you Grammaretto for making me laugh-most people are younger than me too.

No too old for tee shirts, I just bought a pair of M size men's tee shirts. from Tesco. I'm short so those cover my torso and down to mid thigh length, and are wide enough to skim over all lumps and bumps including my bra-less bust, but without imitating a tent.

I do note however that many men and women wear rather clingy sizes of tee shirt. I have not worn clingy since the 1950s.

Perhaps he finds, like me, that T-shirts are unforgiving if you have any lumps and bumps. I look like a badly wrapped parcel in a T-shirt so prefer tops and blouses that are kinder to my bulges.

JamesandJon33 Thu 10-Jul-25 09:48:36

Me too. I’m eighty and bought a new T-shirt just yesterday.

shysal Thu 10-Jul-25 09:47:25

On DD's recommendation I bought 2 pairs of lightweight patterned trousers, like in the pic but full length, and they are sooo comfortable in the hot weather. I thought they would look awful but I have had several compliments. As most of my tops are patterned I bought some plain T shirts to wear with them, with curved hem and longish short sleeves. I am 80 years old next birthday and feel quite comfortable with the look.

Casdon Thu 10-Jul-25 09:45:47

T-shirts are here to stay in my life, although I prefer a nice linen or cotton shirt to go out in. If you catch me buying a flowery, non iron, polyester blouse that’s when I’ll be too old for T-shirts.

TheWeirdoAgain1 Thu 10-Jul-25 09:36:15

T-shirts are one of the most comfy clothing ever invented - well, I think they are! - You're never too old for tees! I always buy them one size too big as I prefer baggy ones, not tight or clingy.

My neighbour is 100 and she wears them regularly in public!

Fairislecable Thu 10-Jul-25 09:35:39

I agree with your DH. Recently I was sorting through my T shirts and deciding whether to keep or discard and on trying them on I realised that the clingier styles did not look good.

The overlarge boxier styles were not flattering and it came down to the slightly heavier weight, skimmed the body ones were much better .

In summer I practically live in SeaSalt ‘sailor’ tops - pure cotton stripey T shirts but with sleeves just past elbow length. Must have at least 6.

I hope I’m never too old for a T-shirt.

I really don’t suit that classic collared blouse look.

Eek, No! Frumpy. A shirt style is nice.

Every so often I look at someone in a nice shirt and they look so smart and good that I go and buy myself one.

And then I never wear it because somehow it doesn’t look smart on me. It looks wrong . 😱 I have no idea why🤔

Back to the T-shirts😬

Oh and regarding your boobs problem. Go to Bravissimo for a fitting. I had a fitting there recently. The uplift transformation is great. I'm so pleased. smile

Thanks folks, of course I am not dictated to by partner! He looks better in the linen shirt, the cheap T with a manly logo wasn't great!! Maybe at age 19.

We do our best to look OK.
