Foot oil to use overnight

(57 Posts)

The skin on my feet has become very dry and I have hard skin on my heels.

I would like to use an absorbent moisturising/hydrating foot oil or cream overnight to help with this and, to avoid grease getting on to sheets, I want to wear thin socks

Can anyone recommend a foot oil or cream and socks to wear overnight in bed? I am not diabetic so don't need products suitable for diabetics.

Hope your feet continue to improve woodenspoon.

You can buy silicon socks from Amazon. They work well but it feels really odd if you have to walk in them. I usually put moisturiser on when I am going to bed. I used to use cotton socks but, unless you put loads on, the moisturiser was absorbed by the cotton.

Great but not very glamorous xx

Bit of an update. NotSpaghetti recommended the CCS foot cream so I ordered some which arrived yesterday via Amazon. Well I put it on last night, a little goes a long way, rubbed it in and it definitely seems to help the skin feel softer. I will continue using it, it smells nice as has eucalyptus oil in it I think.
Many thanks for that recommendation NotSpaghetti.

Although it is not oil, O'Keefe's overnight foot moisturiser is good, so is their hand cream.

I’d endorse O Keeffe’s too, wonderful stuff!

'Footner' peeling socks or similar mean all you have to do is to sit with your feet in sort of plastic wrappers for an hour or so, take them off and rinse your feet. About one week to 10 days later, all the rough skin peels/falls off.

No need to use cream at all except for when you want to maintain your lovely soft feet!

A good file or pumice then Vicks yes the chest stuff, then a good scrub in the morning, sorted mine out. Good for coughs and colds as well, chest and feet.

I always buy foot cream from the Mercadona supermarket in Spain. Not at all helpful I know! But as long as it’s got Urea in it it should do a good job - I find CCS Foot Cream from Boots very good. I just wear fluffy cotton socks from Primark.

Love the Mercadona. Sell absolutey great well priced mosturising body products. If you know someone going to Spain on hols Perhaps they could get you the product.

Have you tried using essential oils?

Check out Google.

Holland and Barrett often have monthly offers on them

The best foot care products I have come across are Margaret Dabbs products. The foot file is very effective, for the best results use it on dry skin . The foot hygiene cream a little goes a long way and it leaves your feet feeling very soft and hydrated.
Having had foot surgery myself and having tried almost everything this is the best I have come across. Check out the range on the shopping channel, you get a 60 day return option

I use the peel sachets £1from cheap shops . Sit for over an hour in the plastic bootees then rub in . It takes 2 weeks to work. The dead skin peels off and then I use a moisture mask for feet . Feet feel like new .

I use foot mender from boots which is great for hard skin and cracked heels. It’s about £29 normally in boots but is often available in their £10 Tuesday deals so I usually stock up when it’s on offer.

My husband uses Footmender-he’s diabetic- and using it a couple of times a week means there’s no need to use a foot file.
I also watch out for it on Boots £10 Tuesday.
I have been known to use it myself when my flip-flop feet look more like hooves.
No need to wear socks after applying as it sinks in quickly.

Cracked Heels? NO ! Unsightly, uncomfortable and always a risk of picking up germs - leading to Cellulitis.
Heal the heels with specially shaped and almost invisible Compeed Heel Plasters.

Then for hard skin, use a sanding file for feet - like a heavy duty emery board. But, the dead skin should come off as dust and be even and smooth, so carefully does it.

Then a real French miracle, I think now available on Amazon,
Alvadiem Foot Balm for Dry Feet. A little fingernail size spot of this massaged well into feet will make them beautifully soft - do nails and between toes as well. Contains royal jelly and always used by Podiatrists here. (It also gives me silky elbows!)

Thanks to everyone who has replied. The CCS range has a few different creams which I shall check out first. A good weekend everyone.

I too suffer from hard skin on my feet .. I go to the podiatrist… who removes it … but within a week it’s back! Lately I’ve bought foot cream and a file from Margaret Dabbs! Available online … a little pricy but effective … so I can cut back on podiatrist appointments!

The general opinion when I was in hospital recently was that it was a cracked heel that was the cause of my cellulitis. When I was discharged, my GP prescribed me a big bottle of E45 to rub into my heels and this seems to be working well so far.

I find any old grease will do but I don’t want any trace on my bedroom carpet. Oil soaks through socks and I have to put on slippers before staggering to the loo at 2am.

Hi if the ccs cream doesn’t work (not for everyone ) I use Flexitol foot cream can’t recommend highly enough but I use a electric foot file first hope this will be helpful to you

lizzypopbottle Fri 01-Aug-25 15:03:10

I'd suggest getting a foot file, the sand paper type thing rather than those dangerous scalpels. They have a rougher side and a not so rough side. I give mine (the foot files) a wash and scrub with a nail brush after use. Give your feet a good sanding and then use O'Kieffs Healthy Feet every night.

CCS Professional Foot Care Cream Is the one my podiatrist recommended and works well. Apparently the essential bit is urea.

Azalea99 Fri 01-Aug-25 14:19:03

@LadyGaGa. I’m with you on Mercadona!

My husband gets very dry skin on his heels and at times they develop very deep cracks which are extremely painful.

He's been using these heel socks from Amazon, which have a silicon lining.

He first covers his heels with 40% urea cream, which softens the skin and then the socks keep it in place and don't absorb it. It works very well for him and he's not had any nasty cracks since he started doing this.
