I have a smallish but annoying skin tag on my lower lid, very close to my eyelashes. It is making it difficult to put eyeliner on as it takes on the dark brown that I use and is really noticeable. I can sometimes see it. I understand the NHS won't remove it, but has anyone had experience of either a private hospital or one of the independent clinics that say they can remove it?

I believe this can be done at the GP surgery

Our GP won't remove skin tags, definitely seen as cosmetic, so no NHS.

I had a skin tag removed from my eyelid by a local independent aesthetic practitioner, she used what she called Advanced Cosmetic Procedure, if you Google that you should find a local practitioner. I think I paid about £90.

ACP is known as Advanced Cosmetic Procedure. The treatment is completed via an electrolysis machine and is a quick, easy, safe and effective way of treating a variety of skin blemish conditions such as milia, warts, skintags, facial thread veins and blood spots.

I had a ‘thing’ on my top eyelid, not a skin tag, more like a whitehead.

Tried applying heat compresses, no use.

Must have had it about two years, asked GP about it, no way would they do it as ‘cosmetic’.

Blow me, about a week after seeing him, it just disappeared! Must have ‘popped’! Was so pleased.

Had read they went away on their own eventually, but felt so conscious of it.

Realise this may not be what your is, OP, but just a heads up about mine.

These white spots are often a sign of high cholesterol.

I had one just below my eyebrow for about two years. I tried everything to get rid of it as it was large. I usually tried to cover it with concealer. Like you, I went to cover it up one morning and it was gone!

I meant to say these hard spots are called xanthelasma.

Try some of the local beauty salons in your area. My beautician is fully qualified in the removal of skin tags, warts and similar blemishes. She says she gets quite a lot of people looking for these to be removed now that it is no longer offered on the NHS. I've seen photos of her work and the results look very good indeed. Any reputable practitioner will be happy to show your their credentials if you ask.

The NHS so longer funds the removal of skin tags. I have just had some removed at a laser clinic (£90 for up to 10) by a crypto pen that freezes them and stops their blood supply. The smaller ones just shrivelled up and fell off within a week or so but two larger ones, one on my neck and other on my face, have had to be re-treated at a cost of £45. They have got smaller so may eventually go. I have a check up appointment next week but if they haven’t gone by then I won’t pay another £45. This does seem to be the going rate though, however do your research and check reviews. You need to make sure that they are qualified practitioners as mine are. Also do ask if it would be safe to use this so near your eye. Hope this helps.

Yes, I’ve read that, but, touch wood, mine seems ok.

Not any more they won't - grr. Part of the NHS cutbacks.

I'm prone to skin blemishes - I do get the odd skintag and I'm very prone to seborrhoic keratoses. Doctors will remove them - but you have to go to a private doctor to do so and will be charged for it.

Though I must admit I'd be too nervous personally to go for having a skintag right by my eye and was fortunate enough that, when one did appear, it did vanish of itself after a while.

I'd be looking into natural remedies (castor oil I think?) for one like that...

If they are like little fatty white spots they are probably Milia rather than xanthelasma I think Calendargirl
