How do you wash your back ?

gwyneth28 Fri 19-Sept-25 06:49:16

I have very dry skin, excema in a couple of places, so yes I need to cream my skin everyday.

Mt61 Fri 12-Sept-25 11:24:12

Sometimes husband. Sometimes back brush.

Jane43 Fri 12-Sept-25 11:11:54

Thankfully I can move my arms enough to do it but we do have a long handled scrubber which DH uses.

henetha Fri 12-Sept-25 10:58:56

I recently bought a long handled thing with a sponge attached on the end. The sponge has a soft side and an abrasive side.
It's brilliant!
I broke my old wooden one a few months ago.

Yep...another one here for using a backbrush. Done that throughout - ie before everyone had showers and after I finally got a shower.

I do need to scrub at it - as I've got skin that's very prone to blemishes like seborrhoic keratoses and that's part of what I do to keep it at bay as far as possible. Blimmin' things are expensive and painful to have removed (long since lost count of how many I've had to have removed over the years......).

Thank you all 🙂
It was mobility issues that prompted the question.

Aveline Fri 12-Sept-25 08:01:15

I've never washed my back specifically. I shower and also am in a swimming pool three times a week so am pretty sure it's clean. I've never been sucked in by the body lotion industry!

BlueBelle Fri 12-Sept-25 07:52:38

Never put anything on my back all my life (clothes yes, I mean in the way of lotions) why ? Mind you thinking about it I don’t put lotion anywhere on my body or face just soap and water

gwyneth28 Fri 12-Sept-25 07:20:23

Hi, how do you put body lotion on your back when you are alone?
I can reach most places but my back remains creamless😆

suelld Thu 11-Sept-25 19:54:46

Oh forgot the main question… I do a mix of the above methods for back washing! I do feel I ought to be singing as I wield my back brush a la films! But as showering with washing long hair takes most of my energies… so don’t! Mind you if I did I’d scare any creepy crawlies…or anyone… near by!

suelld Thu 11-Sept-25 19:50:14

M0nica

I just lie in the bath and let the soapy water wash it clean.

Why do threads like this always attract posts from people informing us that they never bath, only ever have showers. Nothing wrong with that, lots of people prefer showers and good for them, but utterly irrelevant to the thread.

I would love to have a bath again, but I have to shower o/w I struggle to get out of the extra deep bath I had put in decades ago, as I loved my bath. At 80 next year these little “things are sent to try us” ! 🛁

pregpaws3 Thu 11-Sept-25 18:21:43

I use a widows friend , knitted sisal with rope handles bought from the bathroom department of that Swedish superstore. I love a good scrub.

Babs03 Thu 11-Sept-25 17:22:51

Perhaps the OP finds it hard to reach her back and is looking her tips.

crazyH Thu 11-Sept-25 17:16:21

Interesting first post !!!!!

semperfidelis Thu 11-Sept-25 17:12:24

I never wash my back! I've always assumed that the hot water from the shower was enough. I've never observed the 'rituals' that some other Gransneters observe. My back is smooth and soft. Why scrub skin, depriving it of its own natural oils?

Astitchintime Thu 11-Sept-25 17:11:46

By holding the opposite corners of a large facecloth and scrubbing away.

Salmo Thu 11-Sept-25 16:39:29

I don't actively wash my back in bath or shower, just assume it gets enough washing from the shampoo and rinsing water running over it. I sort of assumed most people did the same, and am slightly surprised to hear that's not so. My back doesn't seem to be dirty or itchy or greasy

BlueBelle Thu 11-Sept-25 16:29:59

Ok Monica I haven’t had a bath in about 40 years when I first had a house with a shower 🤣(just for you) and I also don’t need a long handled thingy I can reach up and down and wash my hair each day while in the shower so get well clean every morning
I find this a very strange question though 🙄

Babs03 Thu 11-Sept-25 16:23:12

I have long wooden handled brush, I also use it to clean my feet.

cc Thu 11-Sept-25 16:21:47

Also my bath kit includes a fitted hand held shower head with a thermostat, so I can rinse thoroughly.

cc Thu 11-Sept-25 16:19:29

I have a wooden brush with bristles, also I shampoo my hair in the bath so it gets lathered.

Alison333 Thu 11-Sept-25 16:08:38

A long handled brush with bristles. I find the padded ones tend to absorb the soap before it can be used for washing. You can also buy loofah things which stretch out.

Then either a shower attachment or a cup/bowl/bucket of water if you're in a bath to aim over your shoulder.

woodenspoon Thu 11-Sept-25 15:12:01

I have baths and showers. I use a long handled brush. Works fine.

FranP Thu 11-Sept-25 15:09:45

I don't. DH does

Labradora Thu 11-Sept-25 14:51:49

I haven't had a bath for many years either but I shower daily (of course !! 😊😊) and I use my flannel holding opposite corners so that I can do the whole of my back.
