What makeup to get wife?

It's my wife's birthday next week; she turns 68. I want to get her some new makeup and she doesn't know. I don't want to be obvious. She loves blue and wants to feel young again. Any recommendations?

Almost no men wear make up. I don't know why as women we decide that we don't look good enough without it. I am who I am. If someone doesn't like the way I look or who I am, they don't have to look at me or hang around. Seriously.

Why not buy her some lovely hand cream? Buying her make up might be seen as an insult!

I’d feel very disappointed if I was bought hand cream, lovely or not.

Yes sorry. Good do. I would be pleased with a voucher 👍🏻

Pleased to hear it was a success ArthurMann.

Just read the previous posts!

I would get her a voucher. You can’t take the make up back once bought.
What about a makeover voucher?

Thank you for the recommendations, everyone. I got her a voucher at a local beauty salon. She loved it! smile

Sorry I missed your update before posting Glad she loved it

How about a voucher for a makeover and buying recommended products at a beauty counter or in a salon. Look online for ideas

That's an excellent outcome ArthurMann!
Thank you for letting us know 😊

Could this be something we would enjoy Monica!

I love spas, the ones based on water, pools and jacuzzi etc and I do have my brows tinted and shaped, and electrolysis, but I dislike massage. I have had it 2 or 3 times as part of a spa day, but I really did not enjoy it and I am not sure about make-up packages.

My first visit to a spa was in the every early days of GN, when I won a Mother and Daughter spa package. We went to a wonderful spa near Newark. We have been back many times since - and to others, but nothing has beaten the first one we visited.

That's such a lovely memory Monica. I used to enjoy a weekend away at a Spa but not so much now that I'm not working.

I love to be shown what makeup can do but would definitely want to "reserve my right" to make my own choices. However, my family know what skincare I use (and perfume) so some of those come as presents.

Please give your wife some money to buy her own make up.

Or if you must buy it, ask your wife what type/brand of make up products she would like you to buy for her.

DO NOT buy it without asking her please.

How sweet!
I agree with the others -buying someone make up is really difficult.
In the past I bought my mother some make up as she lost her make up bag on the way to a hotel and felt too unwell to go out .
But my skin tones and hair colour were similar to her so it wasn't too difficult for me.
Her skin had more yellow tones and her hair was more red .
My poor father was sent out to buy her some clothes and it was a disaster.
What am I she said staring at the bright yellow jumper - a canary ?

I was going to suggest buying her an eyeshadow palette in blues , but the others have made far better suggestions .

A voucher, for the love of God a voucher.

How about a makeover session at a local beauty salon?
They could advise your wife about current trends in makeup and show her how to use the different products.

Lovely idea of yours ArthurMann 🥰

Excellent suggestion!

I was just about to make the same suggestion.

That is three of us with the same idea, so it suggests that it is something that appeals to older women.

ArthurMann at John Lewis (if you have one near enough) you can book a 60 minute free in-store makeup consultation in which they:

Review current makeup routine
New product recommendations
Help with techniques and tools
Samples to try

You could book this and give her a voucher to buy some of the items she most likes.

Why do you think she wants to feel young again, Lucky.

She loves blue and wants to feel young again.

ArthurMann said so in his original post, so presumably this is something his wife has said she feels 😊

How does loving blue have to do with make up? Blue eye shadow and liner went out of fashion a long time ago.
Buy her a Boots voucher.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 26-Sept-25 15:17:20

Vouchers I agree. Maybe buy one item to wrap to show you were willing to try!

I never wear makeup - if my OH had bought me some I would have headed for the nearest charity shop with it!

No amount of slap will make her feel young again! Sometimes it makes women look older as it collects in the wrinkles - spooky! Use the money to go out somewhere nice together. And while you are there tell her how beautiful she is!

What a lovely husband you sound ArthurMann it’s something I’d love to be given as a gift. I agree with vouchers.
It’s my birthday tomorrow - you’re not my husband in disguise are you 🤣
