Dupes for perfumes?

I like the Lidl range of Molton Brown shower gel and handwash. My favourite is the ginger lily one.

There are lots of reviews on dupes.
I bought a good one that replicates Plum Japonaise quite closely... I did research it first though!

Yes - their dupes for Aesop are also good. I could never justify paying full price for Aesop.

On the subject of dupes, I tried an M&S perfume which reviewers had said reminded them of a Chanel perfume but it didn't do it for me. It was nice but nothing like Chanel.

The Aldi Lime, Basil and Mandarin candles are great and the best smelling of out of the other (same) dupes. The Asda one doesn't smell of anything to me. The Aldi LBM perfume is also quite nice. I don't think the perfumes last as long as the real thing though.

I recently bought D'Elle perfume from Lidl. I didn't realise it was a dupe. It was just a lovely smell. Apparently, it is a dupe of La Vie Est Belle. It was £5.

I use the Perfume Parlour online. Its Italian House EDP is an excellent dupe for Armani She, one of my favourite perfumes. If you type in the name of your favourites, the site will recommend similar frangrances. You can also buy small samples to try.

Well obviously these fake perfumes are nothing like the real ones .... which have a lasting , lingering scent ... and have a depth of aroma ... just saying ...

No dupes for me.

And to those who say these fake perfumes are nothing like the real ones - have you compared any of the really good matches, the ones that most people can't differentiate?

Is the staying power as good as the real thing ?

I think it very much depends on the dupe.
I've read that some perfumes have dupes made by several different dupe "brands" and some are much better than others.

I'm not an expert on this but have been researching for no longer made fragrances and have watched no encouragement of videos where the dupe is compared to the original.

The Plum Japonaise mentioned earlier is very very good. Not perfect when you have them next to each other - but arguably a little nicer at the start!

I'm not really a fan of 'dupes' since they are trying to replicate something using cheaper ingredients.

Look up the scent notes of your favourite fragrances and look for something similar. I like the website Frangratica which explains the notes of perfumes, has reviews and suggests similar fragrances. Some of the lesser known fragrance companies or cosmetic brands have scents that are very nice, but not at the high price point of designer ones.

For instance Chance is classified as citrus/woody and is quite expensive now. Elizabeth Arden Green Tea is also citrus/woody and is about half the price, but still a nice fragrance that doesn't smell cheap. It may not have the longevity but worth trying. Or try Clarins Treatment Fragrances; I have heard a lot of good things regarding these, although do not have any myself.

Nobody would buy dupes, CanadianGran if the original was a reasonable price but if a small bottle is suddenly £500 or £600 because it's discontinued then a dupe is an option.

Re alternative perfumes - I don't want a "same notes" fragrance. I want the one I love!

I only wear Jo Malone fragrances, there are four that I wear in rotation every day, regardless of what I am doing, where I am going. Unless JM discontinue half of their range I will be ok.

I had a White Company Advent Calendar last Christmas, and it contained two of their fragrances, which are very nice and I am wearing them occasionally.

Marks have a perfume which is a copy of le Labo santal 33 . It’s £19 a bottle compared to £100 plus for the original. Everytime I wear it , I get compliments on it and a friend who has the original thought it was the original. It’s not as long lasting as the original though .
