The headgear, I mean.
Today at The Vatican.

What nasty comments in the previous two posts.

Can’t believe how many people believe royals deserve respect. I think it’s such a hypocritical meeting . The Catholic Church denies weddings to divorcees but allows audience with the Pope for these two who carried on under the nose of a young gullible woman.
I don’t care what they wear except the tax payer funds much of their jaunts. The Pope and them do what they have always done. Use pop and ceremony and expensive outfits to subdue a population who believe in jumbo jumbo and Tories given fir grabbing land.
It’s so sad and so in line with the tabloids.
If some of the comments here represent people of my generation I fear for the future.

I'm totally confused by that comment Frogoet

Why do you fear the future?

FYI this is Gransnet
Many of us may not be here in 25 years time

I think the rest of your post is rather incomprehensible so sorry, I didn't follow it.

What a perfectly awful comment.

Just consider, the head of the Church of England meets the head of the Roman Catholic Church. They pray together, they talk, they clearly get on with each other. Then stop and remember the sectarian violence within our own country in N Ireland , the violent rivalry between football teams identifying with one denomination or the other.
Was this meeting not a good thing?

But hey, let’s slag off Camilla and mock her headgear, somehow equating our fashion taste (or hers) with a rigid and one sided morality. How shallow.
I remember Hillary Clinton saying she could push any news story off the front pages just by a new hair style. I thought at the time she was being cynical, but am beginning to wonder now.

Sheian57 Fri 24-Oct-25 19:14:03

Not a good luck for Parker-Bowles, but then you can't make a silk purse.........! She didn't look too comfortable in the presence of The Pope either

Peaseblossom Fri 24-Oct-25 19:13:08

Ugly hat, ugly woman. Poor Camilla?! Seriously. Ha ha. She deserves no respect and nor does Charles. I can't wait for William and Catherine to be King and Queen, it can't come quickly enough for me, because these two make my blood boil. Why anyone would support them is a mystery to me, knowing how they carried on.

Shizam Fri 24-Oct-25 19:11:59

Phillip Treacy goes berserk - again. He designed those bizarre antennae hats Beatrice and Eugenie wore to a wedding. Camilla normally chooses great hats. This one is dreadful. Bond villain vibes.

For those who don't know, when you visit The Vatican and are invited to meet The Pope,a mantilla is obligatory and respectful dress. It may not sit well with those who object to tradition, but The Queen dressed appropriately, she was not going to a wedding.

Bukkie Fri 24-Oct-25 18:16:19

I an genuinely shocked by the people who think it's fine Diana had affairs but not Charles. Talk about double standards. It's like children in a the playground saying they hit someone because, "they hit me first." The whole situation was sad and I believe avoidable but those of you still protesting that poor Diana was a victim need to have a long hard think about her behaviour.

Merlotgran 👏👏👏 let’s just stick to the headgear and not Camilla’s morals! Not to my liking, something less fancy perhaps a black pillbox?

It’s a good idea, but I suspect and she probably knew, that whatever she had worn would have been criticised.
Knowing that, why not go for something that she enjoyed wearing.

Gin Fri 24-Oct-25 18:07:10

Gosh, who would have thought a hat could produce so much discussion! I am sure the Pope is no connoisseur of hat fashion.

I am not a royalists but neither do I feel I have the right to decide what was the cause and effect of the marriage break-up of Charles and Diana. Do those of you making rather vitriolic comments do the same for other break-ups? Many marriages end in divorce, we have several amongst close family, and I have seen the reasons from both sides. Not all is revealed in the tabloid press, without the full story you cannot be judgemental.

That reminds me RosieandherMaw, are The Pallisers available to watch anywhere, does anyone know?

I thought her head feathers looked fun and added to the occasion.

I watched the Pallisers recently on YouTube, excellent.

I saw the news story of the visit to the Vatican but was distracted by Camilla’s headgear.
I knew why she was in black but didn’t like it all- it looked like black, dead leaves to me and I thought the veil was too long. Not her best look.

Golly-this seems to have touched a nerve. I thought it looked quite good, actually..

Totally agree… good for her! Anyone of around my age who can ‘go for it’ has my vote!

I think that the Queen is also wearing a manilla - just more away from the face.

I thought it was respectful too, this post has drawn some very judgemental folk today.

Nothing new there then, but you have to take your enjoyment where you can find it nowadays.

^I thought she carried it off very well. I like the way she dresses now always appropriate and stylish. Nobody knows what really went on in that marriage but the Camilla bashing is really boring now.
They seem to have a happy marriage but lots seem to have issues with it. She does her royal duties with dignity and kindness, without trying to outshine her husband the King.^

Well said!

We are all sartorially challenged occasionally.

M0nica Fri 24-Oct-25 16:56:47

Looks like the Crown of Thorns, hardly an appropriate image considering where she was.

Hhhmmm. Not sure about the hat but she didn't just go to John Lewis and bought the one she could have afforded but was guided as to what to wear.
I have my own feelings about Charles and Camilla, however I have been told from a close friend who hosted her visiting a homeless clinic that she knew what she was talking about etc etc. and making time for the people there and interested in them.
I shall be glad when Prince William succeeds to the throne.
