The headgear, I mean.
Today at The Vatican.

Whilst the intention is to be respectful, my first thought is that the headwear is a bit outdated for 2025. I'm sure a simple hat would have been fine

🙂 oh, ok!

Yes, but I was just trying to point out the difference between a reigning Monarch and Queen Consort.

We've only had two reigning Monarchs at once ie William III and his wife, Mary II who ruled jointly.

Sorry Allira I was writing my post to clarify my earlier reply, yours came up while I was typing it, so I didn’t see yours until I’d posted.

They Look like bats - different

Allira Fri 24-Oct-25 16:28:17

No, I've looked at the video and am still not keen on the headdress.

But, that is just being a bit picky.

I thought she looked great actually. "Live" was better than the fixed picture.

To clarify, technically Camilla is the Queen, because if a male sovereign is married when they accede the throne, his wife is traditionally anointed and crowned in a short ceremony, which happened with Camilla. She is the Queen Consort because she is not the monarch, but she is officially known as Queen Camilla.

Harry for one would have been much happier I would have thought.
🤔
Well, Harry wouldn't have been born! Nor William, Tom nor Laura.

They would have been different people.

Bantampat Fri 24-Oct-25 16:09:10

I think a plain black lace mantilla would have better. Without the feathers

User77 Fri 24-Oct-25 16:06:37

Am I the only person who thinks that if Charles and Camilla had been allowed to marry when they were young it would have saved a lot of unhappiness. Diana would probably gone on to marry someone else and been much happier too. Diana's children wouldn't have been royal and Harry for one would have been much happier I would have thought.

Whenever anyone mentions Queen I always thing of Queen Elizabeth, she was a true Queen.

Oh dear, I repeat:

Elizabeth II was a Monarch
Camilla is Queen Consort.

Bit shocked by the unkind and unforgiving spirit of this thread. She isn't a 'stunner' or someone very concerned about fashion - she is doing her job and trying to fit in. What exactly would you wear to meet the new Pope under the gaze of the press?

I do like Camilla and everything was fine but for the feathers.

Perhaps something smaller, a headband or comb, just to hold the mantilla in place would have been better.

I blame Philip Treacy - he got it wrong this time!

Not a fan of royalty in general or the headgear, to me it looks like something the grandchildren made from the scraps box

JOJO60 Fri 24-Oct-25 15:57:04

It looks likymy granddaughters Halloween headdress which has bats flying all around her head. I do like Camilla, but not this hat .

I thought she looked as if she had donned her Halloween outfit early. The hat looked like a circular saw.

janipans Fri 24-Oct-25 15:49:24

Just unfortunate that black is not one of the colours that suits her, but flatter feathers woukd have been less provocative of comment.

"Diana only had affairs because her DH had one. She was so unhappy, wrong she may have been but it wasn’t her fault. Imagine the person."

Whose fault was ot then, she knew right from wrong and she had free will. We all have to takecresponsibility for ourselves. I could not care less about people who have affairs or who they are sleeping with, does not worry or concern me, but at least own it.

GardenofEngland Fri 24-Oct-25 15:32:29

I thought she carried it off very well. I like the way she dresses now always appropriate and stylish. Nobody knows what really went on in that marriage but the Camilla bashing is really boring now. They seem to have a happy marriage but lots seem to have issues with it. She does her royal duties with dignity and kindness, without trying to outshine her husband the King!

SaxonGrace Fri 24-Oct-25 15:30:04

I thought it was respectful too, this post has drawn some very judgemental folk today

knspol Fri 24-Oct-25 15:29:52

I think it's absolutely appalling, reminds me of the crown of thorns. What on earth was she thinking!

merlotgran

Sing a song of sixpence
The latest hats to try,
One of Treacy’s finest
Caught Camilla’s eye,
When the hatbox opened
The birds began to sing,
‘Take it off at bedtime
Or you’ll terrify the King.’

Love your little song. Perfect for the hat!

Lollipop1 Fri 24-Oct-25 15:20:43

It's a 'no' from me.
Lots of ladies wore a veil as a head covering in church when I was young. They look really nice or my mother had hats with a small net which came over her face, very sophisticated and I think I've seen Kate wear one. Camilla looks as if someone tacked it onto the hat she had planned to wear just before she popped it on.
