Can I have recommendations for a good make up remover. Currently using Liz Earle but not keen on wash off type and judging by my towel when I dry my face it's not doing a very good job. I am not a fan of micellor water either. Any suggestions my skin type is just "old" and not sensitive.

Simple at moment but I use bamboo cloth to wipe clean my face.

Just changed to CeraVe. Quite good

Baby lotion and cotton wool .
I put it on with circular movements.
I've used it for as long as I've worn make up.
Some 60 years...

You might prefer a cream-based cleanser like *Ultimate Rose Cleanser*—it’s more of a wipe-off style and tends to lift makeup gently without that “not fully clean” feeling.
Oil-rich formulas like this are usually easier to remove with a cloth and can leave skin feeling softer rather than tight.

I have always cleaned my skin with Johnson's baby lotion using cotton wool pads until it is clean .
I use circular movements.
Soap makes it dry.
I've tried several products and didn't like them .

If I exfoliate ; I use a finely ground peel of orange sometimes mixed with raw porridge oats
The orange peel is used by Indian women .
People do compliment me on my skin and ask me what I use.

I’ve never worn makeup and wouldn’t use soap on my face, just hot water and a flannel.

CeraVe face-wash is lovely for my sensitive skin. Just a little is needed; a bottle lasts for ages. (I shop around online and buy a few bottles at a time, at the best price.)

It depends how ‘clean’ you prefer your products to be - by that I mean the ingredients used. Whether you like to use, cruelty free, sulphate/paraben/synthetic free etc. Ponds Cream for example uses palm oil and other synthetics so is not considered ‘clean’ by today’s industry standards.
I like MooGoo, a milk wash, no nasties in it, ph balanced, gentle and suitable for sensitive skins. Can be used all over and removes makeup.

I loved Anne French Cleansing Cream in the past. I use Clarins Velvet Cleansing Milk now.

Avon anew. Seems to dry, but cleans pore level brilliantly and leaves my skin lovely and soft

If I've had make up on I use 'cheap as chips' aqueous cream. Massage in, wipe off with tissue, then use a home made pad (towelling one side, brushed cotton the other). I use that with warm water and all the make up is removed and face is toned with the water. Astral creme overnight.

Thankyou once again - there are so many brands and options now. Looks as if Ponds/Nivea has stood the test of time.

I use Elemis cleansing oil it’s not cheap but it lasts a long time

Thisismyname1953 Wed 18-Feb-26 20:55:39

Gatineau eye makeup remover is excellent, also their facial cleanser . They also do a toner in the same range .

I’m on my third bottle of this, very impressed and will be sticking with it. Generous 400ml size, sometimes available in B&M, but otherwise not expensive.

Dempie55 Wed 18-Feb-26 18:17:28

I’m a Gatineau Girl now that I’ve hit 70, and I love their cleansing balm, but that’s wash off.

When I was younger, I used Nivea Soothing Cleansing milk or L’Oreal Age Perfect cleansing milk. Both are under £3 in places like Superdrug or Wilko.

I do like Elemis cleansing balm but expensive, someone recommended the Lacura cleansing balm from Aldi ( they do 2 different ones that are dupes of Elemis) at the moment I am quite impressed. But they are wash off ones.

When I used to wear make up I always used baby lotion, gentle and left skin nice and soft.

SueEH Wed 18-Feb-26 16:42:23

I use Tropic but it’s a rinse off. There’s not much agrees with my skin but I find Tropic does.

I use Beauty Pie cleanser - I just love it! But you need to subscribe to Beauty Pie each year, but its well worth it as you get fabulous products at a very reasonable price (much more expensive if you don't subscribe!). It is a mild cleanser, which does need washing off, but v. easy to use and gentle on the skin.

Look fabulous forever makeup remover is good (and a little goes a long way) for even stubborn mascara. , use on cotton wool pad then wash face with a warm flannel.

Romola Wed 18-Feb-26 14:54:04

Just a face flannel in warm water. Never soap. Then Nivea Soft for moisturiser.
Last year, I was using Estee Lauder La Mer, having won a pot in a competition. But I don't think it made any difference to my aged face.

4allweknow Wed 18-Feb-26 14:51:26

I use Simple moisturising facial wash. Does the job. Have used Liz Earle and M & S facial wash with cloths, Simple just as good without all the fuss.

Essexgirl145 Wed 18-Feb-26 14:50:30

Rosewater or a wipe.

Barbadosbelle Wed 18-Feb-26 14:39:20

.

I used Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish for over 20-years but a couple of years ago a price hike priced me out of their market.

Since then I have purchased L'Oreal Age Perfect Cleansing milk from Amazon. £2:28. Great. Removes make-up perfectly. Bottle lasts 3-4 weeks.

Saving loads of £s and skin just as good.

Recommended.
