Elegran thanks a million. I've vowed to stop shopping online because it seems to create an avalanche of unwanted emails no matter how many boxes I "untick".

So it should, and unsubscribing should be as simple and obvious as possible.

Some of these sites boast that they have X thousand members - I wonder how many of them have been trying to escape for decades.

I notice some sites are rated as 'impossible' to unsubscribe from/get rid of. That should be illegal!

I have just read about a couple of university students who have created a "onestop shop" website to make it easier to delete an accout for an unwanted site without havong to negotiate complicated procedures. Within a week of its launch it had been visited by over 500,000 people from more than 150 countries.
