Avoiding bank fraud

Yes I usually do this but I have found some sites won't let you do it. I don't know if it does make a difference.

During my many years in IT, I was often subjected to restrictions where I had 'read only' access to data, i.e. I could look at it but I was unable to alter any of the contents.
I wish to have the same form of access to my bank accounts so that I can see what my balance is, check what transactions have occurred, etc. but be unable to apply any alterations online.
The banks I have spoken to have said that such a facility is not available, i.e. if I can manipulate that information then such power could be also acquired by other members of the public if they managed to learn what my password is.
Does anyone know of any bank, etc. that is prepared to offer this limited access facility to one's account(s) ?

I think you will only get this with a paper bank statement, online ones do assume that you will want to make payments andtransfers yourself.

There is an App called ONTREES that let's you look at bank stuff but not alter. I wonder if you refused or ended your on line banking if you could use this app. If you are not signed up to online banking others could not hack into it. However I do not know if you need online banking to use ONTREES.

That wouldn't work for me as I manage my own fund transfers, DD and SO.
If you just want to view your account transactions just ask to receive statements by post and cancel your online viewing.

Although copy and paste will help it is better to prevent instead of cure.

Many problems are caused by opening unknown web pages and responding to requests to open files in emails. By doing this your system can be contaminated with a Trojan which will look for passwords being used. These passwords can then sent to someone wanting to hack into your system. This is a simplistic explanation.

One way to help with this is to use a good virus detecting program if you use Windows, a better method is to convert to Linux or use a system called Tails.
This system can be downloaded from the internet and burned onto a CD. This method will take a little longer to use but is possibly the safest method to use for any transaction.

The above will protect your system from virus contamination and provided you use https on your browser the path from your computer through the internet will be encrypted.
