Yes, I'd heard they were quietly discontinuing Windows 8 as well...

Windows 8 can be set up to look like its predecessors - you do not have to have the "charms." (coloured rectangular options boxes on the desk top).

However, I understand that it is going to be superseded by something that will be called Windows 9 but bears a remarkable resemblance to W7, as so many people hate W8.

Had look today and the cheaper models are all 4GB. Most of them use Windows 8 but people have said it is hard to useconfused

Mine's only 3GB, but as I don't need a great storage capacity it's fine.

Mine is just 4, but I didnt need anything bigger. I have not found that to be a problem yet.

The one that just died was a Toshiba and it lasted well.any idea if a 4GB memory will be big enough or do we need bigger?

Mine's an Acer from Argos. No problems in four years - yet!

Mine's a reconditioned laptop I bought on Ebay about 5 years ago. It's a bit risky, though I've been lucky.

We need a new laptop. It just needs to be something simple to use .Nothing fancy just for the everyday things we can't do on the tablet. It also has to be cheap. Any recommendations please.
