The 'Hmm' Emoticon

I think people use it in different ways Marmight some use to indicate suspicion, in a sort of "oh really?" way. Can't say I use it much though.

I use it as a sort of "why did I do that emotion"

I'd use it as an 'Oh yeah?'

I use it as puzzled although I suppose confused might be a better one to use for that

I sometimes use it as in 'I can't believe you just said that!'

I think it's 'well, I'm not sure about that'

It seems to be all things to all people!

Useful for when you would like to add a comment but can't quite get your head round one.

My original post was questioning why the hmm emoticon was coming out not as a little face with a quizzical expression, but as an envelope!! Obviously there had been a technical hiccup for a few days. Perhaps it was only I who had experienced this problem? It has now reverted to its usual form!

You can use for scepticism, soontobe. It has many uses!

I think that there are subtle differences.

is harsher than [sceptical]

[sceptical] often relates to the idea, whereas relates more to the person, and can imply that the person is being a bit of a fruit loop.
