Any thoughts on printers?

Having got through 2 Hp deskjet printers in 12 years (admittedly one was 2nd hand and not a good buy!) I'm in an absolute quandery as to know what to buy next. The price of ink cartridges seems scandulous, and HP seemed to drink them.

All I need is a good basic printer,I have a scanner but it's such a faff to scan and print that I'm tempted to go for a multi option. Having said that I don't want an all-singing-all dancing model.

I need a printer for photo copying the multitude of documents the French government require for absolutely everything, printing off MS Word docs and occasionally family photos... although I'm as guilty as everyone else and store most of my pics on a memory stick.

I'm looking at Canon's range at the mo. Particularly the Pixma 2450... seems suitably cheap and cheerful.... anyone's else had expenence of Canon printers, especially re cartridge replacement rate and price? Your suggestions would be a great help...... don't really trust review sitesconfused

I have a Canon 5250, which prints, scans and copies. I am very pleased with it. The genuine ink refills are expensive, but I have bought compatible ones online from MoreInk which have been perfectly Ok and a fraction of the price.

We recently bought a Canon MG3500 for about 59€ in Carrefour. It prints double-sided, scans and photocopies. We buy the cartridges from Amazon. One thing I found out recently is that the software on printers is set up to tell you it needs more ink, way before it actually does. I have been ignoring the message for months now.
I feel your pain about French bureaucracy. I love the way they still give you fax numbers but no email addresses. hmm

I think if you look at Amazon you will see reviews which might help once you have a short list.

Please don't buy an HP Envy, I did and it went back.

Cheers, m'dearssmile.

I had a look at the Canon 3500 mamie whilst researching the 2450, so think I might go for that. Canon are a reliable make..... or used to be, who knows these daysconfused Don't start me on French bureaucracy. They have yet to understand the fundamentals of an email.... like actually replying to one!!

I was once trying to buy something for about 4000€. I sent off an email and heard nothing, so in the end I rang up. I asked if she had received the email and she said, "Oh yes". Clearly it wasn't worth replying to get the sale.
We are very pleased with the Canon. I think it was a Carrefour special offer at the time.

We have a Kodak Hero all in one. It's wireless and the refills are much more economical than our old Canon.

We have a wireless canon which keeps forgetting its connection to my laptop - drives me nuts!!

We also have an all in one Kodak, its been simple to use and as Pittcity says the refills are much cheaper than other makes..

I bought a Kodak printer because the refills were cheaper but unfortunately it died after 11 months so I bought a Canon Pixma MG5550 with the money that was refunded to me. I can't fault the Canon and the print quality of photos is much better than the Kodak. I think it cost around £65 and as with all these multi functional printers the manufacturers seem to make their money on the ink refills.

Canon are the way to go..

I once bought an Epson, waste of money and it was not cheap then.

Comps ar available if you dont want 'photo' quality

I have a Canon Pixma IP4300 which works well. It colour prints, gives decent photo printing on various sizes of photo paper up to A4.

For documents it also does double sided printing which is useful in saving paper.

I am not sure if its a current model, I have had it a few years now.

I have an HPC with AirPrint, wireless connection, which works well with my IPAD Etc.

I was looking at Printers earlier today and value comments made here. My HP Photosmart printer still works but is now quite old . I did look at the HP Envy, so thanks for the warning. Think I need to do some research before replacing the 'old faithful'

I have an Epson XP-700, and it's brilliant. It's a scanner as well, so easy to use.
