I use photobucket usually, too. So I was very surorised to discover that I couldn't use it on here. feetlebaum I do use a site to downsize my photos, a photo editing site called Lunapic. It's very easy to use. It's just annoying to have to do it in the first place, when it used to be so easy. Not long ago you could just browse and any photo would work, now even photos with a relatively small size won't work. It's all geared up to phones rather than good cameras.

Just a further point. The forum doesn't cater for showing images held on an image hosting service such as 'Photobucket', which is how I'd usually post suitably resized images. I've tried surrounding a link to an image with the [img] - [/img] tags but it doesn't work.

I mostly only post in computer forums and being able to show screenshots (images) of options and problems can be much better than describing them in writing ..both for the person posting about a problem as well as anyone trying to help with it.

I know it's possible to post a link to a screenshot but following a link to an image and then coming back again might break the flow of a post. Perhaps not as good as actually showing the image in a post

Showing images in posts takes a bit of bandwidth usage. The larger the image file size, the more bandwidth will be needed to download and display it. Bandwidth might have to paid for by someone somewhere along the line. If this is the case, it could be why the requirement is that images are kept to an acceptable file size.

I note that the recommendation is 50KB but images are showing in the forum that have a file size larger than that. There's one where the size is 88.65KB for instance. No problems with it being seen in the page at that file size. I'm not sure what physical size is allowable for images but the forum software seems happy enough with a size of 600 pixels being the larger dimension.

The trouble is that photos coming straight off a camera can be huge in both file size and physical size ...well over what any forum would allow. A photo editing program will be needed to make it more or less comply with the parameters mentioned above. I think that once an image has been suitably processed, it should upload and display OK.

As well as full image editors, there are also programs that make it possible to right-click on an image file that has come off the camera and then choose a size. Try searching for 'right-click resize image'. It should bring up a program or two that does this.

The usual warning applies to all free software. Choose the 'Custom' or 'Advanced' installation. Read the installation options carefully and deselect any unwanted offers.

@JaneRowena - If you look for and download an image viewer called Irfanview, with its plug-ins, you will be able to produce smaller file-size versions of you images by using the 'Save for web' option - it's all freeware, so there's no expense involved.

Actually the plug-in that gives you the 'save for web' tool looks just like the one in Photoshop - which certainly isn't free!

Irfanview has a lot of useful features for the digital photographer.

Which used not to be the case! Something has been changed along the way.

I have trouble uploading my photos from my computer because my files are too large - I use a fairly hefty camera, not a phone, so too intensive. I have to put them through another site first before I can put them on here.

If you go into 'My Gransnet', 'My Photos', then click on upload photos.. it will then ask you to choose a file from your computer.. I've just uploaded one and it worked ok..

Was just about to ask a question re pics- I noticed Galen was posting pics of her craft work and wondered how she was doing it.(pics that is, not craft work!) I can't see any way of importing pics and if I try copy/paste it just greys out. Anybody help??
