Apologies if you already know this.

It has always annoyed me that when I want to type an apostrophe in a word I have to move to the numbers screen to access it. Well no more, I have just seen on YouTube a demo of shortcuts so when you want an apostrophe you just swipe upwards on the key that has an exclamation mark and apostrophe on it. Simples grin

Do you gave any good tips ?

Thanks NanKate I didn't know that. If you do the same with the ? . key you get "

It's a pity there is no way to do Bold, Underline, Italics etc on an Ipad. I can't be bothered with the keys to use on here.

My hudl keyboard has none of these fancy functions. If I swipe upwards on any of the "keys", all I get is an assortment of letters.
Eg: ml (exclamation mark), pl (question mark).

I've just tried it on my iPad and it works!

If you're writing an email Marana you can do bold, underline and italics.

Anya Fri 18-Aug-17 22:55:28

That's on an iPad I mean.

That's wonderful to know thanks NanKate?

Maranta I don't know what keyboard you have on your IPad but I accessed bold, italics and underline function by swiping up the keyboard and it reveals a line of mini icons to use. So you press the bold icon and type the word and then press it again to stop the bold. You can't use this function on GN as they have their own method of bold etc.

I also learned from this YouTube demo that if you hold down any vowel it will give you options of adding an accent for foreign words. You just keep your finger on the key and slide it to the accent you want.

The finally part of me being a clever dick (if I can use that word in present company) if you want a degree symbol type the number e.g. 80 then hold down the nought and slide to the degree symbol. Yet again I can't demonstrate this on GN.

Lesson over please walk out in single file ?

Final not finally hmm

Thanks kate. I knew about the vowel accents but not the rest. Very useful. Also found that swiping up the .com key in email gives .co.uk as well as .gov .ac etc.

Wow, so many helpful tips, I am ok with basic stuff but no idea about these other things- thanks everyone. How do I get bold and italics on my phone please ?

NanKate Sat 19-Aug-17 09:16:06

I'm on a roll here grin

I've tried swiping up other keys such as a 2 and I get @ and 8 I get * wish they worked on GN but I am happy that they will make my emails quicker.

Maranta Sat 19-Aug-17 09:24:12

Wow, thanks NanKate. I've been wasting time finding out new things. I will try YouTube later ?

ninathenana Sat 19-Aug-17 10:14:46

Thanks. I've just discovered that holding the full stop on my phone gives me eleven symbols/punctuation marks.
Why then did I use the old way to write I've smile

Kittye Sat 19-Aug-17 10:22:37

Wow didn't know any of these things. I'm having great fun trying them all out. Thank you ?

NanKate Sat 19-Aug-17 12:56:12

A quick double touch of the space bar at the end of a sentence gives a full stop. This works on my IPhone too.

I recently discovered that you can take photos by pressing the volume up down button on the side of an iphone or iPad - just like using a real camera. I find it is much easier than tapping the onscreen virtual button. Apologies if someone has already said this.

NanKate Sat 19-Aug-17 17:22:35

Brilliant Rockgran I will try that, thanks.
