My DGD and I stayed in the car while my DD went into the supermarket. She took the key and as she walked away the car locked. When we moved the alarm went off and we couldn’t get out of the car. I tried ringing her but her phone was in her bag and the call went to voice mail. I explained to my DGD what was happening ( she was 4) and continued to call my DD til she eventually answered (at the check out!) and she hurried out and unlocked the car.
I hadn’t text or posted anywhere what had happened but Facebook then recommended a gadget that you can carry in your bag to smash windows should you ever get locked in a car ......

Yes, I know what you mean. My mobile sometimes comes up with a "photo opportunity" message, even when I'm in Asda or somewhere.

New-ish mobile phones sometimes get it wrong when they display the name of a company.
When I first rang the National Blood Service from my new Samsung Galaxy Edge, the name displayed was 'American Builders'. Another first was ringing HMRC only for the whole screen to turn red and a message appeared saying that it was a fraudulent/scam number. hmmgrin
I always have location finder turned off so the software can't 'tell' where I am. On my mobile it's in settings > connections.

I don't mind receiving these messages, nor do I mind CCTV everywhere. I feel safer knowing someone is watching CCTV when I'm out and about in town.

I'm becoming increasingly bothered about the amount of 'tracking' that takes place now. It amazes me that criminals still don't get caught! As I have nothing to hide I don't mind receiving these messages, but I certainly don't give any feedback on purchases as that's just encouraging more contact.

I got off an 11 hour flight last Friday and before I'd even collected my bags I had a text from the airline asking how my flight had been!

I am somewhat envious of all of you in that you have obviously mastered your new phones immediately. Well.... I've had mine for two weeks now and, I tell you, it's mastering me! I'm finding the experience so frustrating and difficult that I'm thinking of reverting to my old one which is - wait for it - 22 years old. I only decided to replace it because of battery problems but - dearie me!!

Can be annoying but the technology has been amazing for solving many crimes, by pinpointing the culprits !

Nana is right you have the ability to allow the phone to know where you are or not Go into Settings and turn it off

Turn off your GPS!
If you don't know how to do it, Google 'Turn off GPS on my phone' but say which phone you have.

They probably phone each other.. "pssst! She's just left the supermarket!"

I recently got a new phone but kept the old one which still had some credit on it. I went shopping at the Range leaving my old phone in a drawer at home. When I got home there was a message on my old phone asking me about my experience at the Range.

Do my phones talk to each other????confused

Thanks for that Daddima - you have just reinforced my decision to stick to my old mobile phone and resist the temptation to upgrade to a Smartphone. There is enough stuff buzzing around in my head without have to read messages from the Co-op.

Now, I have a new phone. Tonight I used it from my son’s to order a takeaway, and when I keyed in the number it displayed the establishment I was calling. I was impressed.

Then, on the way home, I stopped at our local Co-op, and when I arrived home there was a message saying, “ How was your experience at local Co-op?”

Now, I’m sure none of my activities would be of interest to anyone, but do things like this make anyone else a wee bit uneasy?
