Just recently I have been receiving strange squares in emails. I presume the sender is typing a symbol or funny. Any idea what it is please?

Small squares ◻️are where an emoji smile has been typed but the programme you are reading on can't translate it.

Larger squares are usually images that are left out to save memory when downloading emails. There should be the option to "show pictures" at the top.

I’ve had those squares on my old iPad. It was so old it could no longer be updated so didn’t recognise the new symbols, which then appeared as squares.

Could the sender be typing on a keyboard that is geared to another language than English?

Letters that don't exist in English will turn up as a small empty square.

Sometimes if something has been copied and pasted into an e-mail you get the squares - very annoying!
