It's done, thanks, Marydoll.

I'll remember to try the footer next time, as well as your kind offer of help if I need it though?

Doodlebug, I have always added page numbers in the footer in Word, so much easier and doesn't knock the heading out.
Any official documents, I have received, have had page numbers at the bottom.
I used to design our school handbook in this format and it had to be sent as a PDF. The program automatically adjusted the layout and page number at the bottom. We are talking about approx thirty pages
Feel free to message me, if you need a hand.

Thanks, I will have a look at that

Ah, I see. Well in that case, yes, Office for Mac is virtually the same as for Windows, and they are interchangeable when it comes to saving and sending. My husband uses Windows and can open my documents that I created on my Mac.

No, I am on a Mac using pages but windows can’t convert so you have to convert before you send a document. I had forgotten that there was office for Mac.

Yayy!! ?

Doodledog Sat 14-Aug-21 19:53:48

It worked!!

Thank you, Alegrias1. The sense of relief is enormous?

I assume you mean put a section break on p3? Will I then get more numbering options? I'm off to try.

I think so. Let me know how you get on!

Doodledog what about trying Sections? You could start a Section on the page you want to start numbering from and then just use page numbers in that Section.

I think!

This might be genius! I will try it and report back, thanks?

TizLiz, I have had no problems with Office for Mac, apart from my own incompetence. But if you are on Windows 10, doesn't that mean you are using a PC? As you can tell, I am not a techie, so ignore me if I am stating the obvious, but Office for Mac is for Apple, not Windows.

Not answering your question, sorry but wanted to ask if Word for Mac is worth changing to? Do get fed up converting everything to MS Word for all those philistines who use W10

Can anyone help me with what I'm sure is a very basic MS Word question, please?

I am editing a long document, and want to insert page numbers in the header. Or not in the header if it makes life easier - I don't care where they go at this stage?. Anyway, what I want is the title page, the contents page and the next page to have no numbers (although all will have text), and for the rest of the document to be numbered sequentially, starting with page 1 on the fourth page of the document. How do I do it?

I have clicked on 'page number' in the header menu, and the only options I can see (apart from where to position the numbers) are to have them start on the first page or the second. If I opt for no number on page 1, it starts numbering on page 2, which is not what I want. It even numbers it page 2, maddeningly.

I googled, but all I can find are instructions for numbering systems within a document (eg for report headings) which is not what I want to do either.

I have tried numbering the pages then adding in the first 3 afterwards, but it just defaults to numbering them all ?. The document is going to be made into a .pdf and sent electronically, so I can't print it as two separate documents and bind them together and get around it like that.

I am using Word for mac, if that makes a difference (it usually doesn't).

Thanks in advance if you can help - It is so frustrating when Word won't co-operate!
