TV with best sound delivery

The Humax box could be part of the problem. Ask the people at Richer to explain the difference between sound on Standard Definition and High Definition output. A tweak to your box settings could improve the sound for you. Plenty of information about this on Humax and AV forums.

Also bear in mind that less expensive sound bars may improve volume but not necessarily improve clarity of sound so something else to chat to them about.

Thank you all and I think a visit to Richer Sounds now on the cards. We are happy enough with picture quality but a slightly bigger screen would be good too. We aren’t much into films so the whole cinema experience really isn’t what we are bothered about just being able to get the sound volume at a level we can hear comfortably. We too use a humax pvr and now I’m wondering MiniMoon if that might be part of the problem.

I would probably buy a new Samsung sound bar compatible with your tv. Ours is really good when watching movies.

We bought a samsung tv a couple of years ago. We were advised to buy a sound bar too.
Our tv is linked to a humax freesat box too. To get decent sound we have to have the humax box turned up to full volume.
DH can hear it when the volume is set at about 7 or 8. I need it at 10 - 12. I suffer from tinnitus Though, so need to hear above the constant shh noise in my head.

On a different note, our tv has a built in satellite tuner. I would like to try it without the humax box, but am rather afraid to try it.

Silverbridge another vote for Richer Sounds, very helpful and not at all pushy.

It can be a minefield and really does depend on what and how you want to watch as well the sound quality.

Even high end Smart TVs such as the Sony A90J (which may be what your daughter has) and had great reviews as a home cinema system, seems to be missing some key features but still costs a whopping £3500. This TechRadar review:

If you are happy with picure quality on your current set you may just need a better sound bar but be aware that these can be heavily reliant on your TV spec.

My advice is to ask the advice of sound specialists. Richer Sounds are good in my experience.

The Sky engineer was admiring our Panasonic tv and recommended we keep it as long as possible as you just don’t get quality sound like that now - it is already 15 years old

Google says the best TV of all is Sony XR-55A90J which is (wait for it) £3,499 from John Lewis. I suppose you get what you pay for. I can't see me spending that much on a TV no matter how good it is.

I would like to know what model your daughter's TV is please. If it sounds good then why not get the same?
