I have suddenly started getting video adds popping up all the time whilst on GN.

They are to my right about 4 x 3 and are very distracting, they cover part of the message in GN.

Never had these before hmm

Anyone else. I cants seem to get rid.

They seem to be mostly Disney.

It doesn't seem to matter how many times you close it out, it just comes back. Very intrusive and annoying.

I keep getting them too on my lap top. Really annoying! I click close ad, which it does, but then it comes back again multiple times.

I had to disable my ad blocker as it was stopping me using many sites.

I don’t get the shouty ones. Could be because I don’t have the sound on ??

I might have solved it!

I switched from the desktop site (the toggle at the bottom of the page) to the mobile one ten minutes ago, just to see if it made any difference.
Guess what - no shouty videos came up. I switched back to desktop, and got one almost immediately.

Now I'm back on the mobile version, and still no videos.

I really hope that the solution really is that simple, and that it is not just a coincidence.

I tried that. Still got ads plus OP posts not highlighted !!
I’m on ipad.

I've just noticed something else that's different on the mobile site: all the OP's posts in a thread are highlighted!

I'm only getting silent ads now, not the loud video ones. I can live with those.

5 ads in between posts on the mobile site.

Calistemon Fri 19-Nov-21 14:44:36

Plus about 5 as 8n between posts.

Calistemon Fri 19-Nov-21 14:43:47

Tried that
I've still got adverts- Mumsnet (get your voice heard! They need me apparently) and an advert for a new radio channel.
Added to which the message box doesn't show when I'm typing.

Mine isn't an Apple.

And I do not want to go to Tenerife even though the ad keeps trying to persuade me I can run along the beach joyfully!

muse Fri 19-Nov-21 13:44:40

Calistemon. Just quit out of my email and Chrome, shut down my laptop and rebooted. Everything OK.

I'd be interested to know if other MacBook (Apple) users have been successful with Adblock. It could be a PC problem.

Calistemon Fri 19-Nov-21 13:31:23

muse I found my email changed format and I couldn't log out of it when I put Adblock on. Very strange.

Calistemon Fri 19-Nov-21 13:30:21

It's not happening on the pc, just on the tablet. I don't think I've got an Adblocker on the pc which I'm using at the moment. Nor are there annoying adverts at the top of the page on the pc, one of Gransnet's own and another below it trying to sell me something I don't want.

FannyCornforth Fri 19-Nov-21 13:20:44

Thank you Calistemon
I definitely won’t bother trying again!

muse Fri 19-Nov-21 13:19:28

Thank you Hetty58. I too started to get these video ads on my Macbook laptop but never on the iphone. Don't have an ipad.

Just installed Adblock plus and the video ads have gone. Well all ads have gone, even better. It's not upset anything else on the laptop.

I downloaded the version for Chrome.

No definitely getting nothing I shrunk the screen and only a Toyota one at the side nothing about FB at all ???

Calistemon Fri 19-Nov-21 10:48:52

Ads kept appearing one after another on FB too and I spent hours deleting the firms I didn't want because didn't want any Adblocker messing everything up again.

Calistemon Fri 19-Nov-21 10:47:14

FannyCornforth

Yes, I’ve got them. Something to do with Facebook I think (fb.gg.creators confused)
Hetty I have tried and failed to get Adblock in the past. I will give it another go and report back…smile

bikergran I thought it was my tablet because I've been getting them too; all I've been able to do is turn down the volume.

They are extremely annoying.

FannyC I put on an Adblocker as advised by someone on GN and messed up everything, my email account, GN etc It was a nightmare and I had to delete accounts and start again.

BlueBelle Fri 19-Nov-21 10:11:06

Like this

BlueBelle Fri 19-Nov-21 10:10:02

I do t get them on my iPad at all because I keep the screen for the threads only i let them fill the page then you don’t see any side adverts
If they are not the side adverts you’re talking about then I don’t get anything else

FannyCornforth Fri 19-Nov-21 10:01:35

I’ve tried Adblock and Clario (downloaded the apps) but can’t follow their instructions on what to do next (extensionsconfused?)
So I’ve still got the ads.
I had a recurring one yesterday for an asinine looking children’s computer game, which encouraged me to ‘Bomb to the Beat’ hmm

PamelaJ1 Fri 19-Nov-21 09:38:33

There seem to be quite a few apps to block these pesky things.
Anyone got any recommendations? Most of them say in app purchases does that mean that the apps ads pop up instead?
There is one that costs £1.79, maybe that’s the one to go for.
So many choices that I will probably not choose any ?
