Hello
Does anyone else have it?
Iā€™ve got a free 6 month subscription with Sky (available for all Sky customers)
I partly took out the subscription because itā€™s the only place that you can watch the amazing series Dickensian .
It cost me a not insubstantial Ā£25.
But I canā€™t watch it on my TV, it seems.
Has anyone else purchased anything on the Apple TV app and been able to watch it on their TV?
Thank you

Whitewavemark2 Wed 14-Dec-22 06:53:05

I sort of assumed that it was just for your apple device.

We have a couple of subscriptions. Netflix, Prime and also our son put on the Disney thing. Honestly we havenā€™t even looked at the Disney. Prime once in a blue moon and Netflix occasionally. I think we are over burdened with choice in a way.

We have it on TV through our Apple TV box , though we have never found much to watch.

Mamie Wed 14-Dec-22 07:04:22

I think the app is also on Smart TVs.

Whitewave I agree re choice.
I canā€™t keep up with all the channels and apps that I have.

Iā€™ve definitely got the Apple station on my Sky Glass, itā€™s all up and running, itā€™s just that I canā€™t see my lovely purchase.
I was so looking forward to watching it.
Itā€™s beyond me why anyone would want to watch TV on their phone.

Thank you all, I wasnā€™t expecting any replies tbh! smile

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 07:12:54

Whitewave you must watch The Rescue, about the boys trapped underwater in Thailand.
Itā€™s on Disney.
There is a documentary and a film.
They are both brilliant, but the documentary is one of the best things Iā€™ve ever seen - definitely the best thing Iā€™ve watched this year.
Watch the film first, then the documentary.
Iā€™ll have to check what it called and get back to you.
Can you tell I feel very strongly about this! grin

Scrap that. That is the documentary.

Iā€™m having trouble with this as so many films etc have been made about the events.
There is also a series on Netflix

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 07:21:35

Right.
The film, directed by Ron Howard and starting Viggo Mortenson and Colin Farrell, is called ā€˜13 Livesā€™ and its on Amazon Prime.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 14-Dec-22 07:32:18

Thanks - I will give that a go.

Tbh I find recommendations often the way to go as I seem to trawl through not finding anything I fancy watching otherwise.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 14-Dec-22 08:15:49

FannyCornforth I wasnā€™t keen on watching the film, DH put it on and after a couple of minutes I was hooked, definitely worth watching.

Have you seen Designated Survivor?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 14-Dec-22 08:16:32

Oops itā€™s on Netflix

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 08:24:36

No I havenā€™t GGravy, I do have Netflix. In fact I have the lot!
Iā€™ve just been ā€˜chattingā€™ to Apple support.
I got a call back, but ā€˜theyā€™ wanted me to press a number on my key pad and it doesnā€™t bloody work!
Theyā€™ve rung me three times now asking me to ā€˜press 1ā€™!

Harris27 Wed 14-Dec-22 08:27:42

Son downloaded it fir me on Sunday so I can watch it on my tv. Iā€™ve got it free fir six months so thought Iā€™d give it a go.

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 08:48:41

Yes, same here Harris
The thing with Gary Oldman is being heavily promoted, but Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s my cup of tea.

Iā€™ve arranged for Apple support to call me on my landline later.
What an almighty faff! hmm

MerylStreep Wed 14-Dec-22 09:07:17

Fanny
Apple support are brilliant.

Iā€™ve watched so much brilliant stuff on Netflix and Prime.
Disney + is mainly for National Geographic. It amazes me when people say thereā€™s nothing on them worth watching.

One thatā€™s come to mind is Billion dollar code. The true story of how 2 young German tech kids developed what we now know as Google Earth and stole it from them.

The true story of Boeing killing 400+ people in 4 months while knowing they had a fault with their new planes.

The story of the Sackler family who, with the hep of the FDA addicted millions of Americans to opioids.

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 09:10:46

Meryl yes, I am actually impressed.
They have been very helpful and extremely thorough on the Chat Support thingy.
Iā€™ve been in contact twice now and Iā€™m pleased with the service

Itā€™s just the automated phone system that has been a damn nuisance

It is brilliant, Fanny. Gary Oldman is wonderful as Jackson Lamb. Mind you, I like Mick Herron's books.
A Spy among friends is also excellent (ITVX). Highly recommended.
All available on a Smart TV. Apple have a free sub. offer for limited period atm.

Apple TV is an app on your smart TV.
Go to apps, scroll through and click.

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 10:06:06

Thanks Boz Iā€™ll give it a go.

I do like Gary Oldman.
There is a film called The Firm about football hooligans in the 80s, and he is so believable, itā€™s like watching a documentary

I know, Iā€™ve got it. My issue is that I canā€™t watch my purchase on my TV.
Iā€™m getting a phone call from Apple support later

Iā€™ve really enjoyed a lot of the Apple TV+ stuff. My favourites include
BlackBird (based on a true story of a serial killer and has the best acted creepiest character Iā€™ve seen in a long time in it)
For All Mankind (an alternative version of the space race)
Slow Horses (Gary Oldman)
See (ridiculous concept, stars Jason Momoa, has wonderful costumes and stunningly beautiful cinematography, I loved it šŸ˜)
Severance (wonā€™t even try to describe it, very weird but drew me in)
Bad Sisters (black comedy)
Ted Lasso (comedy and brilliant)
Tehran (spy story).
