I remember years ago while skiing in Glenshee in the Cairngorms of Scotland in really windy conditions when this dreadful horn went off,it was surely heard by everyone skiing on the mountain range that day. It was a warning to get down off the mountains immediately, the weather was closing in. Evacuation was short shift and did the trick.. I believe warning people in dangerous circumstances is good thinking by those who want to take protect us from harm
After all, this procedure is practiced elsewhere in the world. Just be prepared Sunday 23rd April is the day and I would advise to keep your phones on to hear this one off practice, take care my gn friends this could save your life, what’s the point of a warning if you can’t hear what’s happening

You will not receive alerts if your device is turned off or in airplane mode.” The government's website adds that you will not receive alerts if your device is connected to a 2G or 3G network; wifi only; or not compatible. google

I think it might make me jump if I am driving at the time! My car connect automatically to my car when I drive so I think I’ll switch if off if I go out that day!

I think the alarm will work anyway even in the phone is switched off but hopefully won’t be as loud if it’s not connected!

already a thread about this and it's nothing to be frightened about.

It is entirely sensible and in line with a lot of other countries.

It's a nationwide test but would normally be used very locally, eg for flood warnings. I was reading an article which said many more lives could have been saved in the Grenville Tower disaster if they had been able to send "evacuate" texts once it was clear that staying put wasn't a good idea.

I don't have any worries about it and someone I know who is an expert in such things says it is not at all big brotherish, they don't have access to all our data etc.

It’s a trial off the government for further messages. You just press ok and your phone will be fine.
