Geoffrey Hinton, the man widely seen as the godfather of AI, has warned of its dangers, as he quits his job at Google. How worried should we be, and what, if anything, can be done about it?

They are already more intelligent than some of us!

AI is only an educated robot it can be programmed to have emotions and to be aggressive or submissive according to who programmed it.

We are going to get caring robots and criminal robots but what happens when an autonomous robot that has self learned commits a criminal act.

I have just reported the above suspicious link

Hallucinations?

Let me give an example, @Germanshepherdsmum. Say I asked my chatbot to help plan my trip to a new city. It tells me about a really cool restaurant it thinks I should visit. But when I look it up, there is no such restaurant at that location!

Chatbots are still learning, so sometimes they can be mistaken. But hallucinations are when the wrong details or made-up things are presented as facts. I have to check things myself to make sure the chatbot has its information right.

Just as an aside, has anyone else read "^Machines Like Me" by Ian McEwan?

That was fiction but raised interesting ideas.

I think chatbots these days are still far from being more intelligent than us. Sure, they give answers real fast, but when you analyze them, you can still spot some hallucinations.

Be afraid, be very afraid 😱
On a serious note, with everything we hear / see Re people being scammed has the potential to be a nightmare.

Years ago, we thought all this was science fiction and scoffed at how far fetched it all was.
That will teach us! wink

Is that not a bit scary? πŸ€”

dogsmother

Without Hinton Seadragon has me down to a tee. More and more flibberty gibbit as time goes by. Perhaps it’s all due to AI !

I've been a flibberty gibbit all my life, dogsmother - my mum used to say to me "Ye're ae in a dwam!" , but I'm paying attention now - for the sake of my children and grandchildren.
