Using Alexa to work the TV

I hope someone can help me - my mother is losing her sight rapidly and loves her Alexa for the radio. I know I can get a TV to work with Alexa but wondered if anyone has experience of this and what can you actually do? eg Can Alexa find programmes on catch up - for example "Alexa play Countryfile from last Sunday"? Or does she just turn on and off, volume and change current channels? I just can't seem to find the answers on line and hope one of you helpful people who uses Alexa for the TV can advise me!

I can use Alexa for the TV if I press the little microphone symbol on the remote. I have only used it once though and that was to switch channels so I don't know if it can find single programmes.

Oh dear, it not only didn't work for me searching for a particular episode of a series but, it crashed my fire stick

I have Alexa linked with smart things on my samsung tv. I can change channels and ask to view Disney+ and Prime. I haven't asked for anything in particular on those channels though, so I don't know if this works.
Alexa cannot turn on the tv, but can turn it off.
Some more modern televisions come with Alexa built in.

Don't worry, I will just reset it as some point and if it doesn't work I can use the apps on the TV anyway

I'm afraid my commands didn't work. Alexa said, "living room tv isn't responding, please check it's network and connections."
She says this about the lamp I have linked sometimes too. I think we need better broadband here.

Some smart TVs have voice command built into the tv. Check on the settings, it’s probably switched off if you don’t use it.

We have turned off Alexa on our TV although we have lots of Alexas dotted around the house. It was too intrusive
