Zoom- the ultimate irony?

I found it a life saver during the pandemic and still appreciate its value for talks and courses that I would find it hard to get to, but it seems that Zoom the video-calling app which made its name with remote learning and working during the pandemic, is ordering staff back to the office!
Employees have been told that those who live near one of its offices must be on site for at least two days a week, with the company claiming that hybrid working “is most effective for Zoom”. The tech company, which has more than 8,000 staff, is the latest major employer to reject the idea of fully remote work. Amazon, Apple, BlackRock and Goldman Sachs, among others, have all ordered staff to return to the office more frequently in recent months.

PS I’m in favour of staff getting back to the office too - WFH has gone beyond a joke in some areas. But that’s another saga.

I recently received a phone call from a mobile number that I didn't recognise.......it was an administration clerk from my local hospital calling to remind me about my up-coming appointment. I commented on the considerable background noise and he said he was WFH and they were his children and some family who had dropped in to visit.
This did concern me as I thought it inappropriate that he was calling patients, saying their names and allocated clinics within ear-shot of others - huge breach in patient confidentiality in my opinion.

There are certain aspects of WFH that don't work very well in many cases, like training. Mr A had two new staff start while he was WFH during lock down and spent many, many hours just giving them the technical training that they needed. In the office they would have been sitting close together with the rest of the team and if they had a problem could have quickly asked for help. His own work suffered as a result. One of the newbies left within 3 months because they just couldn't hack the fact that they had to do so much learning on their own and didn't feel that they had any real support.
