My tablet is playing up and I think I need to get a new one. I use it a lot. I started with a Tesco Hudl which was great for years, then had a Samsung which was good. Latterly I have had a Levono which has disappointingly only lasted 18 months.
I'm not great with technology and not very intuitive. I think I want to get another Samsung.I like touchscreen. Anyone bought one recently they would recommend please? TIA

MY Ipad Air 2 has now stopped updating. It's still in mint condition, but I can't update it any longer, so I need a new one. Can anyone recommend a like for like replacement or better , and at a reasonable price. I have a MAC desktop and an Iphone, so it will have to be an Ipad and noth any other make.
I'm not technically minded , so I need a little help if any of you are able to know what's best .., my late husband was the techi one who set everything up in the past. Thanks folks. smile

I have an iPad … my husband swears by his much cheaper Amazon Fire x

I am with you I have both and hardly ever use my Amazon Fire now. I love my i pad for everything from browsing , banking and only realised how much better it was to read my Kindle books on . I bought a Kindle Oasis but the i-pad gives a lovely big page of the book in print big enough to read comfortable . I will keep my Oasis for reading on holiday by the pool if we ever get the chance again to do so .

I have a Kindle Fire, this one has lasted 6 years, perfectly fine, but getting a bit slow to charge. May get a new one before my next cruise. It's linked to Amazon, and I don't mind thst; setting up a new one is easy, they automatically transfer everything over.

Glammagran I bought the same tablet yesterday in Currys. Samsung Galaxy S9 etc etc my really old one still works but a little slow. I wanted a keyboard and it arrives tomorrow and fits on the tablet. Direct from Samsung as all Currys asold out. Samsung all the way for me

I’m an iPad fan. My old one was still going strong after eight/nine years, but had to buy a new one as could no longer get software updates. New one is with a keyboard, which is fab. Easy to set up and transfer data from old device. They are expensive, but, for me, worth it.

My iPad is nearly 9 yrs old and is still working as good as the day I got it. I'm really impressed with it, it still receives regular updates. I would definitely buy another if I needed a replacement. The biggest deterrent is the initial outlay. When I had an iPhone as well, they worked in sync which was an added bonus. These days I mainly use my phone for everything so the iPad is a bit redundant.

Thanks Annie1, I haven’t bought a new iPad yet as I’ve had this one since 2015/16 but I am thinking about it. It seems to be running out of battery a lot sooner than it did before even though I have cleared as much unwanted stuff as I can. I do use it a lot so that might be the reason. I appreciate the info, thank you.

FoxyFerret,

My memory is like a sieve but when you get a new iPad and sign in with the same email address and same Apple password , I seem to recall it asked me if I wanted to put my apps etc on my new one. If you want any info go into Google or Edge or whichever browser you use and ask -“will my details from my old iPad appear on my new iPad when I sign in. I spend my life on my iPad and am always googling any question thar comes up in my daily life!

I tried with an Android tablet a few years ago but couldn’t manage the settings and became paranoid over having to download anti virus apps and keeping them up to date. I am not good at all with technology so an iPhone and iPad are easier options for me, although they’re both family cast offs when my daughter upgraded.
I think Casdon you were right about the time scale !

Always iPad for me.

FoghornLeghorn Thu 01-Feb-24 17:25:20

My iPad has just died after only twenty months of use. I’m extremely cheesed off.

I think Apple iPads are safer to use and give you more protection and control. I’ve just seen to my horror and relief that Safari has stopped 46 trackers from profiling me via gransnet and 89 trackers from when I was browsing Mumsnet earlier.
Time for a sharp exit I fear !!

Are you sure that’s not in the last seven days, which mine does as a running total AlasNo? I agree with you regarding the security system on Apple, I much prefer the fact that it automatically updates, and you don’t need a separate security package.

ipads and iphones here too, but also have PCs as we run our family business from home and I must admit I prefer to do banking etc on the PC, although my DH and DS keep telling the they are all secure.

Foxyferret Thu 01-Feb-24 16:29:27

Thank you Pegsmum for the info.

Stansgran Thu 01-Feb-24 16:18:43

I love my iPad . All my recipes now on it. Kindle books and emails back to 2006. DH complains that I’m attached to it permanently but he is hopeless with technology so I keep track of anything important. All my bank accounts ,investments and credit cards on it. I would actually like two,one for DH investments etc so I don’t have to clutter m iPad with his stuff. Security I am happy with.

Pegsmum Thu 01-Feb-24 15:41:42

Transferring data from iPad to another. Try calling Apple who will talk you through it - it's a free number and you can leave a message for them to call you back. I have always found them very helpful. If you are buying a new one the Apple Store will also do it for you but you might have to wait a while. I have done this with a phone. There are also plenty of videos on YouTube , which will help.

My Samsung Galaxy tab A is a few years old and still has regular updates. I have a Samsung TV, phone and tablet. I highly recommend them.

Vintagegirl Thu 01-Feb-24 14:35:42

I love my Samsung Tab 2 which is about 6 yrs old now. I used for newspaper and taking photos and the odd game of solitaire or wordle. I prefer keyboard of laptop to type anything. I had trouble with the power connection and replaced it with a new one but did not like the dimensions of the screen ( more rectangular) and smaller size so spend £ on getting old one fixed and sold on the newer one.

Ipad. Very reliable, very intuitive and very sharp contrast and colour for people like me with some visual impairment. There are also some accessibility features which are helpful.

Skye17 Thu 01-Feb-24 14:13:44

I love my iPad, and I’ve had it for years. It’s so easy to use, more secure against viruses, and it works great with my phone. I’m never getting another kind of tablet.
